Wild Abandon 18.a is the third chapter, and first interlude, of Wild Abandon. Luna Hare gets created and goes about her day. The Bitter Street Witch undergoes an important lesson in augury. Dom Driscoll gets a pivotal visit.

Plot[edit]

The first section covers the beginning of Luna Hare as a fragmented echo that found its way to the Paths, gathering scraps of existence to become Open to Interpretation before Miss began the Ritual to Create Kennet Found. The successful ritual allows Miss to interpret what was Open to Interpretation, with a scrap of dress and moon rocks into a prop-person.

The girl gets her own house in this new Kennet and spying intruding practitioners steps out to deal with them.

Roughly 24 hours later Luna wakes up and goes about her day, ruminating on the particularities of the city and how the community meshes together. She checks in on her neighbors and other residents, meets up with Hogsy and makes her way to the ticket office to get payment for the various writs she's granted. There a Practitioner is making an angry nuisance of himself, severely chafing under the Law in Kennet Found. Luna gives him another Writ, gets her money and heads up to see the Founder.

Satisfy her own curiosity bychecking in on her Founder who herself is mussing over various events. She and Miss talk about recent events and the current and future condition of Kennet Found. Luna volunteers to help so Miss asks her to visit Matthew, check on Verona’s demesne claim, and deliver messages to the undercity warlords.

Luna visits Verona, fining the practitioner Myles Sutton after Verona dumps him outside following his failing claim challenge, then Luna herself enters. Verona is fairly welcoming to her, discussing claims and in typical Verona fashion gets badgered with numerous questions regarding Kennet found and the development of the Foundlings. Luna agrees to no contest and is sent on her way with a change of clothes to blend in and advice to get a bodyguard.

Luna exits the house to the Kennet Undercity. She naively asks the people gathered at there if they would be interested in bodyguarding work. One of them, Easton Songetay, decides to attack her and get information.

The next section shows the creation of the Undercity, which in turn brought in and created what became the Bitter Street Witch, parallels are drawn to how an animus is made.

BSW is having an augury lesson through a webchat with Nicolette via BSW's new laptop, which is magical, alive and given to her by the Kennet trio. She is currently doing a card reading which reveals that someone’s going to undergo a forced familiar ritual.

BSW gets some stuff to eat and has to deal with the bad cooking of her brother Donny and his surprising advice that she needs to spend some time keeping her warlord position.

BSW continues her reading and notes that Gillian is in love with Tanner and Wye is probably going to have them get married. Niccolete relocates to her office and continues the discussion. BSW says that she craves that normality when she herself is trapped in such an ugly form despite being very close to Nicolette in age. Nico empathizes and covers her own experiences.

The BSW does another reading and it reveals that a child is going to be brutally murdered she closes the chat with Niccolete and goes to intervene. She calls out Donny and their other brothers and heads to the the Goblin market to get Matthew and warns him he’ll be offered a fake familiar. They find Luna held in a circle surrounded by Easton’s constructs, Matthew unleashes his Doom on them, then the BSW’s brothers arrive with reinforcements. In the confusion they manage to rescue her.

Luna is able to keep her composure despite her trial and gives her invitations to Matt and the BSW. BSW adds an additional errand to find a practitioner willing to talk with the trio.

This section has a figurative description of conception is presented with due reference to the Pillars of Human Existence, the process completes and the egg is fertilized.

In the current timeframe Dom is cooling down outside experimenting with various ritual circles, having fled the tumultuous social environment of the cabins.

Luna approaches Dom, after a quick discussion and exchange of promises he follows her to a meeting. Drawing a spell circle on his hand as a basic precaution.

He comes face to face with Avery and they talk some, she offers several options on letting them out.

Dom says the Graubards and others got stuck in Kennet Found but the rest will probably accept.

Trivia[edit]

  • The laptop the BSW uses is likely the same one made by the trio in Gone and Done It 17.14<ref>Verona passed Avery some of her work from the afternoon.  An ancient laptop, dug out of her dad’s basement, given a treatment that made it about ten times grosser.  There were three dead mice inside, fried and melted into the machinery.  Verona hadn’t killed them, she’d just collected them from traps her dad had set in dark corners of the basement and then never went back to.  One dead alchemy experiment, gelatinous, oozed up into the number pad on the right side, making the keys bulge up and out in a vaguely spherical shape, and she’d even added pieces of her broken feather pen with the nib wedged into a socket, with wires wrapped around it.

The webcam had been melted into the housing of the screen, making it unable to close completely.

It didn’t have to be pretty.  It just had to be sufficiently divorced from real tech. - Excerpt from Gone and Done It 17.14</ref>
