Geography/Description[edit]
The House on Half Street is a house who's street has been hidden between two others, New st. and Rodden st. To access it you have to insert the Key into the screw of a street sign post and turn it.<ref>She pulled a pen from her pocket and uncapped it. Beneath the cap, plastic had melted, and she’d sunken a key into the plastic mess. She triple-checked they were clear, then hopped up to a street sign that was by a fire hydrant, standing on the hydrant. The post had little plates sticking out, identifying the sub-roads of this corner of almost-downtown. New st. and Rodden st. They were held rigid to the post by bands of metal, cinched tight with fat screws.
She slid the key into the slot of one screw there, turned, and then moved it in a half-circle around the post. The ‘Rodden st’ sign split in two as she passed it, and formed a third little signpost. ‘Half st’.
Shadows deepened, then the light shone through, as if a cloud had passed over the moon and then let it shine brighter immediately after. What looked like dense trees and a patch of nature at the corner of this area was opened up like an optical illusion had revealed itself, showing the narrow one-lane street that extended into the trees, and the tall, not-especially-taken-care-of house tucked into the trees. The skeleton of a for-sale sign was set into the lawn, the top portion with the realtor’s face worn by weather, the lower half that hung from the horizontal part of the post had fallen off and was mostly covered in weeds and tall grass.- Excerpt from Dash to Pieces 11.1</ref>
Residents[edit]
Verona, Avery and Lucy used the place as to hide the Carmine Beast's furs.
Points of Interest[edit]
It was secured by the power of Ken, the Anima Corporeal of Kennet, who basically said the being that could break the places protection wouldn't need what was inside.<ref>“Ken swore up and down that the working he did to hide the House on Half Street wouldn’t budge unless it was the kind of power that would stomp Kennet to the ground,” Verona said. - Excerpt from False Moves 12.7</ref>
Verona has started to turn the house into a work station for her crafting and alchemy projects, she plans to add an area to practice summoning later.
During Verona's demesne ritual, after each claimant was either were defeated or rufused to challenge her a mural was added to the walls of the house.<ref>The cat marks chased after the deer and occasional opossum, giving the floor a texture that wasn’t immediately apparent- but got more intense if looked on from the right angles.
“I’ll need a light switch that’s for the art, not the lights. Turn that off so I can have someone like Jeremy over,” Verona murmured. “I wonder how long that takes to set up.”- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.10</ref>
History[edit]
It was given to Verona by Ken as a place for her to hide the furs,<ref>“How was your errand?” Lucy asked.
“I guess we’ll see if my hiding spot is better than Edith’s,” Verona said. “Ken helped me pick the location and tuck it away out of sight, and I had him forget where he put it as part of the gift. Then I copied what Edith and her group did, but… I think I did it better, if I may say so myself. I’ll show you later, if you want.” - Excerpt from Shaking Hands 9.12</ref> he then promptly forgot about it.
After Lis became Kennet's new city spirit she gave it back to Verona on condition of a statue to commemorate John, Edith joining the council and a temporary truce.<ref>- Left in the Dust 16.5</ref>
The Undercity version of the House on Half Street is occupied by stuck arounds which Verona cleared out before claiming the place as her demesne. She also freed two people that had been taken hostage and tied to a radiator.<ref>- Left in the Dust 16.7</ref>
In order to mark her claim Verona slept with Jeremy in the house three times, afterwards she claimed the hosue as her demesne.<ref>“Let this be my claim. I claim the House on Half Street, the property given to me by the city spirit Ken, by the city spirit Lis, and marked by me over these last few days. Here, I have shed sweat, I have shed tears, I have shed blood, all earned. I even threw in the fourth bit of Self if you want it. I claim this space in Kennet above, in Kennet below, and in a version of Kennet yet to be realized. I claim the connections in those three versions of this space and no others.”- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.7</ref>
Verona is planning on turning it into a bookstore.<ref>There’s a certain secret bookstore that’s in the works. If you don’t mind it being really far from done… there’s some cool books you won’t find anywhere else.” - Excerpt from Crossed With Silver 19.1</ref>
The houses bell has a distinct chime depending on if the person entering is from Kennet Below, Kennet Above or Kennet Found.<ref>“Bell chime is approach from Kennet above, jangle-jangle is from Kennet below, and musical sound is from Kennet found.”- Excerpt from Let Slip 20.3</ref>
