Description[edit]

Very little is known about the Lighthouse. The name can refer to the organization itself,<ref name=alpeana-police>"Alpeana had said the Witch Hunter was from the Lighthouse group, and that they had a relationship with the police." - excerpt from One After Another 10.e</ref> or to the location where they operate.<ref>There’s no rush to answer.  But once you can, come to the address I’m about to give you. It’s a place we call the Lighthouse." - excerpt from One After Another 10.d</ref> The geographic scope covered by Lighthouse operatives is unclear. The leader of the Lighthouse, or at least of its local division, is Samaniego.

The Lighthouse provides organization and training to its members. The training is difficult and members are expected to demonstrate high levels of commitment.<ref>“Don’t come until you know what you want.  The training is hard and bitter, the resources and tools we use too valuable to give to someone who is going to give up halfway." - excerpt from One After Another 10.d</ref> There are about twenty-five individuals who are training at the Lighthouse.<ref>"About twenty-five of us coordinate and train there." - excerpt from One After Another 10.d</ref> Older or injured members often become trainers or clerks for the organization.<ref name=":0" /> The Lighthouse also has a barn with cats in it, and keeps dogs.<ref name=":0">Haris had been injured more as he’d gotten older, and it was Samaniego’s style to keep them useful, so he’d put the injured to work as trainers if they were experienced enough, and paper pushers if they weren’t.  Haris had taught a lot of these guys individually, and as time went on he found himself thinking more about what they’d need to learn and what kind of exercises would get that across.  He saw stubborn, quiet Clint pushing the car too hard, and he started thinking about things that would teach the guy gentleness.

Maybe time with one of the dogs.  If one of the bitches had a pup that needed care, he could give it to Clint to give milk to.  Or one of the barn cats, he supposed.  He wondered which Clint preferred.- Excerpt from False Moves 12.a</ref>

The Lighthouse has a relationship with several practitioners associated with the Blue Heron Institute, including Lawrence Bristow and Abraham Musser. This arrangement provided for nonagression between the Lighthouse and the associated practitioners, and in return Bristow traded Aware with the Lighthouse.<ref name="musser-nonagression">“We have arrangements with the Lighthouse.  Nonaggression pact.  We supply you with Aware.  The building in Winnipeg.”

“Surely you can name the person in charge of ‘the building in Winnipeg’,” Elise said.

“I can.  Bristow?  He was a colleague.” - excerpt from False Moves 12.a</ref><ref>He maintains relationships with powerful practitioners and problem solvers.  With Witch Hunters, with secret societies of non-practitioners, who use him and his facilities as a trash receptacle for human problems they don’t know how to deal with.  - Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.8</ref> The Lighthouse is also known to have a relationship with local police.<ref name=alpeana-police /> Samaniego maintains relations with groups of witch hunters as far away as Halifax and Rhode Island,<ref>We walked different paths from the beginning.  Different forms of training, different amounts of time spent with Mac’s group, Creevey, in Halifax, and with the talons in Rhode Island. - Interlude 10</ref> but the nature of the relationship between these groups and the Lighthouse has not been confirmed.

Members[edit]

Cleo Aleshire worked with members of the Lighthouse, but was not herself from the Lighthouse.

Andy and Eva were provided training and supplies from the Lighthouse, and maintained connections with them.<ref>"When we got our training and they gave us all the tools we need to do this, they kept going on about how important the diaries are.  They made us read some too." - excerpt from Gathered Pages (Arc 10)</ref> However, their work in Jacob's Bell was independent of the Lighthouse, as some locals (particularly Sandra Duchamp) would object to the presence of Lighthouse operatives.<ref>" Your offer for help is appreciated, but wouldn’t go over well.  I don’t know about the other locals, but Sandra has made it clear she knows who you are and would rather you stay away." - excerpt from Gathered Pages (Arc 10)</ref>
