Summer Break 13.6 is the sixth chapter of Summer Break.
Plot[edit]
Avery visits the shrines, gives her offering to the porcelain spirit and receives some water in return. Next she visits Lott, a complex echo of a former drug dealer and gives him cigarettes and meat.
The dishware spirit appears and informs her that there are intruders entering kennet, she text Lucy, Verona, Zed and Jessica. Then proceeds to head off with the two spirits in toe, Snowdrop joins her with Nat, Butty and Cherry.
She stumbles upon the fae ephemera, a mother and father with two pups and three humanish babies. The ground around them is lettered with papers.
Avery tries to negotiate with them but the male pounces at her, whilst another wolf comes at her from behind. She manages to jump out of the way of both. Five more wolves appear as does a snake and several birds.
Avery temporarily binds Lott into a tree branch and the echo portion of him takes residence in her.
Earlier Avery meet with Miss at Toadswallow’s abandoned bar and asks her if she knows anything about the station promenade path, Toadswallow encourages her to get something in return if she’s giving this information to the Garrick’s. Miss tells her to reach the end of the path you have to use a train to get to another path, in exchange she asks for half of what she earns from the deal.
Avery tells her that she knows she was present when the carmine died, Miss says she wanted the trio to be like a Chosen, to stand in opposition to practitioner society.
By being wild practitioners and having a large amount of power they would destabilizes other practitioner families.
They talk about what happens if Charles does manage to take the throne, the destruction he’d cause to practitioner society which would be intensified as they fight among themselves to decide who get made a Lord. Miss and Rook also think the end result will likely be mostly the same as it was before but with less tolerance for small communities like Kennet in case someone tries something like that again. Similar to how Bristow used the threat of something evil to gather more power to himself.
Avery tells Toadswallow and Miss that she’ll be leaving to go to Thunder Bay, Toad is upset by the news. She hasn’t informed Verona or Luct get.
Back in the present Avery throws a finders knot and breaks the fae ephemeral’s twilight, making the area less theirs and more hers. One of the wolves starts throwing knifes at her, one of them hits Lott sticking him to a tree. Avery binds dish to the stick instead.
Snowdrop jumps off her shoulder a grabs a bird as Doglick arrives with reinforcements as Zed start performing some technomancy.
She gives them another chance to negotiate and one of the wolves leaps at her biting her branch, pieces of pottery shatter around it and reform.
A wall forms out of nowhere and a wolf hits it, the fae ephemera suddenly runs away.
Zed appears and they talk, Zed says the papers are from Wye. Wye suddenly steps out of the forest and Zed contacts Nicolette, creating a hologram of her.
Wye has been using the papers to deflect from the nettle thorn. He says he has no hard feelings for Nico and Zed, that he’s just helping Musser as part of business.
Wye says the Judges are giving advanced notice to contenders that the contest for the throne will start soon and that the alpha ephemeral wolf is a contender. He goes on to say that either Reid or Raquel will try and take the throne, Wye begs for their help in preventing the two of them from dying. Nicollette agrees to talk to Raquel and Avery agrees to see what she can do.
Wye tells them that the fae ephemeral are circling around to attack the shrines and Lucy Verona and Avery head off to deal with it.
