Fernanda Whitt is an emotional manipulator and a student at the Blue Heron Institute.<ref>Fernanda Whitt, 13, Generalist, Emotion Manip.- Excerpt from Student Guide</ref>
Personality
Fernanda is manipulative and spoiled with a predisposition to throw temper tantrums. She feels as in order to get ahead in life she has to take things from other people.<ref>“My point is, Chase, fine, you get, but don’t ignore the fact that I have to take. All of us lesser members of the family have to. We have to grab for the advantages, complain, manipulate. We have to know when to be the squeaky wheel, when to tease, when to go the extra mile, because the payoff later is so critical, when to take the social gamble. The flip side of the deal I was talking about? If I take a gamble and fail, if I do something stupid, or I hurt the family, then I’ll be sent down the same path Louisa traveled.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref> After Laila's death she showed genuine remorse and made attempts to change the way she acted.<ref>“This is my game, and this is how I win, I win people over, or I destroy them, and I’m tired of destruction right now,”- Excerpt from Vanishing Points 8.7</ref>
She is worried about being forced to get married in a few years.<ref>In five to seven years, if I’m not good enough to leave to my own devices, I’ll be a pretty piece of meat that belongs to the best man our father can find that will put a ring on my finger.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref>
Relationships
Fernanda was originally intended to marry Zachariah Nichol but after Chase became Alexander's apprentice the marriage was called off.<ref>“That would be Fernanda,” Zach said. “My mom and her mom were kind of conspiring to have me and Fernanda spend time together, a bit ago. Our families are on more or less the same level. Or were. Not a lot of power, no big library, not a lot of contacts, none of that.”
...
“It doesn’t sound like it went anywhere,” Avery said. “The marriage?”
“It didn’t. Her brother got a bump in status, and her family stopped talking to our family. The talks about the two of us stopped being as frequent, then stopped all the way.”-Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.9</ref>
She argued with Mr's Graubard during her doll making lesson, eventually getting gainsaid.<ref>“I’m paying the school and the school is paying you, and you give us this booklet that probably took less than a dollar to make, and you won’t even give me five minutes of your time. My family is going to talk to Alexander about this.”
“I’m sure I’ve given you more than five minutes at this point.”
“That’s gainsaying, right?” Lucy murmured.- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.9</ref>
Fernanada and Laila Throop used to be friends.
Fernanda and her older brother, Chase Whitt, are not close<ref>“We’re not close, Chase. We’re only barely brother and sister.”
“That can change.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref> and Fernanda is envious of the prestiges and opportunities provided to him.<ref>“You get, Chase. You’re the golden child, you got chances, and you get more things handed to you.”
“If you resent me for that, you have to know I didn’t ask for it.”
I don’t hate you for it, even if I wish I could get a chance like that, instead of a unicorn ride and clothes to wear.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref> Chase on the other hand wishes he'd spent more time with her and has made attempts to reach out to her.<ref>“Realizing I didn’t have anyone to talk to, I wished I’d talked to you more. I thought it’d be nice if I didn’t have to do that.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref>
She has a strained relationship with her father who loves his her but struggles to show it.<ref name=":0" />
Tomas Whitt is her brother in law. She also has two cousins, Valeria Hull and Regina Degroat.<ref>“Fernanda Whitt, as introduced, my cousins, Valeria Hull, née Whitt, and Regina Degroat, née Whitt. Come in, coats off.”- Excerpt from Crossed with Silver 19.14</ref>
Fernanda feels affection for Nicolette Belanger,<ref>Fernanda’s heart sank. No. Nicolette was the nice one.- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref> Nicolette for her part is highly protective of Fernanda.<ref>“Oh,” Nicolette said. “I’m going to go look in for this interview with Fernanda. I think she’s not doing great, and I like her. Good kid in a bad situation.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref>
Alexander was fond of her, even after her and her brother changed sides.<ref>“I am fond of you, Fernanda. I hope you find your way back to classes with me. Don’t burn that bridge, and you won’t have cause to worry.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref>
Avery and Fernanda initially clashed due to their differing personalities but as they spent more time together they started to understand each other more. After Musser and Thunderbay started fighting she was told she could no longer talk to Avery.<ref>i was told i have to stop talking to you.

Managed to get the girls and some of the boys at the Blue Heron Institute to ignore Salvador Martin after he said the wrong thing to her.<ref>“He said the wrong thing to Fernanda Whitt a few months before she had her big style upgrade and started playing the diplomacy game. She got most of the girls and some of the guys to refuse to give him the time of day, some of that went as far as people giving similar treatment to his dad. Pretty sure he got a big talking to, or he got scared it would keep going that way, he turned things around. Mostly.”- Excerpt from Gone and Done It 17.13</ref>
Appearance
She is an attractive girl with a ponytail who wears make up with glitter in it.<ref>Fernanda had her hair in a ponytail. She wore a top that left her shoulders bare, with little flappy short sleeves that extended to the arms, and skinny jeans. Whatever makeup she’d put on had a tiny bit of glitter to it, from how the light caught on her shoulder.- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.9</ref>
Abilities
She is skilled at manipulating people's emotions.<ref>“I know how to boss people around, and I’ve studied and sought counsel from Others about the games boys and girls play. My family wasn’t especially strong before Chase hit it big, but we specialized in emotion manipulation. In love, and feuds, and trust, and fear.- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref>
She also brought several items from the Fae court of Bright Fall:
- A bottle of cocoons that make you ill when you digest them<ref>He pushed a cocoon in a bottle forward. “Eat it, it’ll make you sick for exactly a day. The worms will spin up phlegm and bad symptoms. Rashes, cold sweats, bleary eyes. Then they die. You’ll be right as rain after. If you don’t give them water.”- Excerpt from Vanishing Points 8.7</ref>
- Beads of stolen beauty that make you temporarily more attractive or influence a child's long term development.<ref>“I am,” Fernanda said. To Avery, she said, “It’s a vanity thing. It can give you a boost in a pinch, for an important event, but it’s most often used to make sure children grow up handsome and pretty. I knew someone who had to have one with breakfast, one with dinner. Her older brother didn’t turn out well. It won’t change what you have for very long, but they say it influences what you get, drawing on what your genes provide. Might be a placebo. But it provides some peace of mind.”- Excerpt from Vanishing Points 8.7</ref>
- Lost voices that change how you sound.<ref>“Two men’s voices, two women’s. I’ll leave it to you to select voices different from my own.”- Excerpt from Vanishing Points 8.7</ref>
She also knows a lot about the fae and fae related items.<ref>“You pick up an idea of it,” Fernanda replied. “Living charms tie into life. Fruit that looks artificial, with grapes that look like jewels? Appearance-focused, or status. Ephemeral baubles for ephemeral effects. A solid, inflexible key for solid, inflexible effect. Structure.”
“Fernanda’s actually really good at this,” Avery said. “Some past experience, though.”- Excerpt from Vanishing Points - 8.7</ref>
Chronology
When she was younger, she was given a ride on a unicorn as a rewards for manipulating her teacher, Mrs Marrow.<ref name=":0">“When I was four I realized that Mrs. Morrow was fond of me, and our father wanted something from her. I drew her a picture. When she asked me to describe it and explain what I drew, I pulled myself up onto the chair next to her and put the picture in our laps. Then, as the conversation continued, I sat, good as gold, my head leaning against her arm. Our father never told me I did a good job, but I distinctly remember a unicorn ride afterward. Might be the closest I ever got.”
“I do think he told me. That you did a good job. Not in so many words, but our father never used so many words.”
...
“I wanted so badly to ride on that unicorn alone, but I was obviously too small. Our father made the maid ride with me.”
Chase looked her over, then said, “He wanted to reward you and didn’t know exactly how. But he thought so highly of you then. I would’ve been eight or nine. Our father told me, rough quote, look after your sister, after you awaken. She will be an asset. He still feels that way, I think. Other times you make him want to pull his hair out, but… overall good.”
- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref>
Fernanda manipulated Laila into agreeing to teach her about her practice and backing her up when if things got tough.
She was invited into Alexander's office by her brother to act as a witness, during the meeting Alexander's apprentices defected and Seth was forsworn. Afterwards she found herself moving from Alexanders camp to Bristow's and during the ensuing chaos gainsaid Laila.<ref>And Laila, who had so recently made promises, trusting their friendship was more important than practice, visibly diminished. If she wasn’t gainsaid now, she would be later.- [https://palewebserial.wordpress.com/2020/11/28/cutting-class-6-z/

During the final fight Avery, Verona and Lucy managed to use Laila's death to convince her to stop supporting Bristow.<ref>Fernanda situated herself off to the side, near the alley between two buildings. Not choosing either, her head hanging a bit.
...
“What happened, Fernanda? Your family’s fortunes are rising,” Bristow said.
“I’m a manipulator. I know they were messing with me, showing me those things. Putting Laila in front of me. I don’t care. It happened on your watch.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref>
During the trip to the fae court of High Fall, Fernanda was paired up with Avery.<ref>“Avery? Fernanda.”- Excerpt from Vanishing Point 8.6</ref> The two of them when shopping together, Fernanda tried to buy her a top and paid for a look in a mirror that showed how she'll look when she's older. She also brought her an Escape Key that would either take her home or show her the direction to travel in.
She was present on the Station Promenade Path when Avery and Snowdrop performed the familiar ritual.<ref>“Tashlit,” Verona murmured, pointing, “Meet Zed, Brie, Nicolette, Jessica, Tymon, Liberty, and Fernanda. I guess Estrella had better things to do?”- Excerpt from Shaking Hands 9.z</ref>
She had to leave the Blue Heron Institute to deal with her family.<ref>A call to Zed, an email to Nicolette, a text to Fernanda, who’d left the Blue Heron to handle family stuff.- Excerpt from Dash to Pieces 11.2</ref>
Her, America and Sullivan Fletcher visited Milly Legendre in Nipigon. Whilst their they were attacked by people from Thunder Bay.<ref>- Left in the Dust 16.y</ref>
