Chloe is a ghoul that has recently started living in Kennet. Due to a prolonged lack of food she is slowly losing her humanity.<ref>The question may no longer matter. Chloe is not doing well and has lost much of her humanity. Distinctions fall away and she has the weaknesses of both. Chloe has more pronounced fangs/claws and waking/sleeping cycles. Personality

She loathes her current predicament and wishes for nothing more than a normal, ordinary life. Despite how bad her situation is she's been known to make jokes about it.

She is trying to turn the warehouse she lives in into a home and spend considerable time cleaning it and making it habitable.

She has been deeply traumatized<ref name=":1">The water sprayed out, and even though it was a bit above room temperature, she froze. Strength bled out of her, her thoughts were numbed and were blasted away in concordance with the spray, and dark thoughts stole across her brain, followed by the image of the church.

Her mind was filled with her recollections about the inquisition-style gathering of her and her traveling companions, the group of them lashed to crosses with barbed wire.

Cuts and gouges opened up in the backs of Chloe’s arms, around her neck, and in her calves and shins. As if the wounds had always been there, and the water washed away the pretending.- Excerpt from One After Another 10.c</ref> is still haunted by the memories of her turning.<ref>Memories of a rustic church darted through her brain, and if the angry, depressed, dark thoughts were like snarling hounds bounding over hills, then the memory of the church was the horse-mounted hunter with the rifle and horn, following after. The dogs of dark thinking were harrying, harassed her, and kept her anxious and moving desperately, they nipped and hurt, but the hunter was near-certain to obliterate her, if he could get his way.- Excerpt from One After Another 10.c</ref>

Relationships

Nibble is Chloe's boyfriend, the two of them are deeply in love with each other but despite this she fears that she's a burden to him.<ref>“I know I’m a burden, I’m struggling, and you have to help me too often, Nib, but I- I need that.” - Excerpt from One After Another 10.c</ref>

In addition to Nibble she also used to travel along side another Ghoul named Faith, all three of them were romantically involved up until Faith went into a death frenzy due to a lack of food.<ref name=":0">Nibble & Chloe met alongside a third while foraging for sustenance. As ghouls they eat dead matter. The three became a foraging pack and became romantically involved as part of this.

In Summer 2019 they had a scarcity of accessible food. Efforts to curtail ghoul population restricted access to common foraging grounds. This caused the ultimate death frenzy of their third (who became so hungry she lost all sense of caution and put herself in the way of hunters) and Chloe’s steep decline and loss of humanity. - [1] from [8.a Spoilers] New Other Correspondence #1</ref>.

She also has a family but since becoming an Other she is to afraid to visit them and can now no longer remember their address.<ref>Chloe thought of her family. She’d gone home, once. A long while back. She’d stood outside, looked in, and she hadn’t had the guts to go in and see them. So she’d written a note. She hadn’t had the guts then either, when it came to sending that.

Then she’d left, telling herself over and over again that she should write something, so they wouldn’t worry, or something… and every time she thought of heading in the direction of home, she’d chickened out, then invariably traveled further from home.

Appearance

Chloe looks around twenty years old,<ref>The ghouls were sitting on the very end of the couch, by goblins and by John. They looked twenty-something, underweight, and their eyes caught the light from the door to the backyard and made that light paler and foggier.- Excerpt from Shaking Hands 9.1</ref> she wears a sweeter and a knee-length dress and has her hair tied up in a scruffy ponytail.<ref>Chloe wore an unseasonal sweater and knee-length dress, her feet bare and dirty. Her hair had been pulled back into a messy ponytail, and the state of the ponytail made Lucy think it was her boyfriend who’d done it for her, when he hadn’t done a lot of ponytails. Her demeanor didn’t suggest she did a lot of that stuff on her own, either. As if Chloe was a little bit… gone. - Excerpt from Shaking Hands 9.1</ref> Due to the lack of food she is visibly frail and detached.

Abilities

It is unclear whether she is a profane ghoul, and her otherness originates from a curse placed upon her or a near death experience ghoul and she became a ghoul due to staying on the brink of death for an extended period of time.<ref>If she is a profane ghoul then she was cursed between the time they were released and the time she was and this pushed her into that knife’s edge state between Life and Death. Curse-oriented origin would mean she is more focused on right/wrong & law/justice & maliciousness.

Second possibility is she is a NDE ghoul or Near Death Experience ghoul. Same story but without the curse. If she nearly died or came to the razor’s edge of Death’s embrace (by being hurt enough or a metaphorical hair’s breadth from hanging/being shot/other execution) and stayed there long enough that could push her to become a ghoul. This state/Otherhood may have allowed her to fight her way free and deal with her captors. I can’t remember the specifics about NDE ghouls. Like all ghouls she can see life and smell death<ref>We took them on because they are fairly effective in a scrap, and they can see Life and smell Death. - Excerpt from [8.a Spoilers] New Other Correspondence #1</ref>, she is also unnatural strong and has sharp teeth and retractable claws.<ref>Chloe, by contrast to Nibble, didn’t do a good job of hiding teeth that were meant for tearing dead flesh, more pronounced and jagged than his, with one lower tooth bearing a fork that made it look like another tooth had grown out of it. And she didn’t really hide the claws of her fingertips and toes, either, or the exaggerated, edge-heavy points that marked the joints of her hands and feet, turning rounded knuckles into pale, bony points that jutted back. - Excerpt from Shaking Hands 9.1</ref>

She is damaged by sunlight and running water.<ref name=":1" />

Chronology

Prior to the start of the story she was abroad with a group of friends when they interrupted a funeral, they were taken prisoner and forced to turn on each other, this ended up with them all targeting Chloe.<ref>Chloe was overseas with a group of friends when the group inadvertently intruded on an important funeral and offended rural locals. Vigilante justice followed. They were harassed/captured/made to turn on each other (on Chloe) and then released battered and bruised. Chloe’s humanity leeched away soon after and she became a ghoul.- Excerpt from [8.a Spoilers] New Other Correspondence #1</ref>. After their release Chloe tracked them down and killed them.<ref>Nibble’s rendition of her story is that the friends were tied up and made to decide who was most responsible for the offense and they named Chloe thinking she would die. They were released and started on their way home and then Chloe was released & caught up. She later attacked and devoured them.- Excerpt from [8.a Spoilers] New Other Correspondence #1</ref>.

She and faith started to lose their humanity during the Summer of 2019 after experiencing a shortage of food.<ref name=":0" />

Started living in Kennet shortly after the attack by Bristow's Aware, when the local Others decided to expand.

Met with the local practitioners when they returned from BHI and made a good impression.

Tried making the factory she lived in a home but made a few mistakes here and there.

Went on patrol with Nibble they came upon the setup made by the new witch hunter, they decided to flee and warn the kennet residents. The duo came upon Avery, Snowdrop, Lucy and Melissa Oakham exiting a cabin and Chloe went off to track down the Witch Hunter.

Intervening at a critical moment she was so severely hurt that she went feral a few days later and assaulted Lucy. Since the incident she has started to recover but is still to dangerous to be allowed to go outside on her own.<ref>“Hey Nibble,” Avery said. “How’s Chloe doing?”

“Better. Not great to go outside though, unless nobody’s around. But at least she’s still at a point where getting better after a bad episode is possible. Thanks for asking.”- Excerpt from Dash to Pieces 11.6</ref>

During the fight outside Kennet Arena she and Nibble tacked the Dog Meat.<ref>Chloe came tearing out of the woods, intercepting the Dog Meat.  The two immediately began thrashing one another.

A nail-studded hand raked Chloe’s face, and that was enough to set Nibble off.  He leaped into the fray, working with Chloe to tear into and bite at the Other.- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.13</ref>
