Millicent Legendre is a Knight of the Seal and Goblin Exterminator.
Personality
She didn't want to take up her families practice due to how boring and dangerous and unrewarding it is.<ref>“I don’t want to take up the family practice,” Milly said. “It’s so dull, and when it’s not dull it’s traumatizing. I’m hoping to find something else I’m good at.”- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.6</ref> She feels as if her family is cheated because they are underpaid and undervalued<ref>“We have that power,” she told him. “We don’t use it but we have it. And because of that, it feels like we get treated as second class. It’s like- it’s like you’re not paying the police because you know they’ll keep working without pay out of civic duty, and instead you pay the arms dealers. Literally, you’re rewarding actual arms dealers.”- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref> and worries that they'll fall behind.<ref>But then we all watch as we fall behind. The people in power wonder why they invest in us while everything’s going right, and they wonder why they invest in us when everything goes wrong.- Excerpt from Wild Abandon 18.9</ref>
She really dislikes goblins,<ref>“What if the goblins don’t deserve it?” Lucy asked.
“It’s a cost and benefit thing,” Milly answered, packing up her stuff. “If any of them don’t, and I’ve yet to meet one that didn’t, then the cost of letting the others slip the net isn’t worth sparing those few. They’re too dangerous, too nasty.”- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.6</ref> in part due to seeing the aftermath of so many goblin attacks.<ref>“They’re a scourge. A danger. If you’d seen what I’ve seen, you wouldn’t think twice about what I do.”- Excerpt from Wild Abandon 18.9</ref>
Relationships
Kool
She regularly visited Talbot, feeling great sympathy for his predicament despite his hostile comments towards her. When no one else could see her she cried for his lost nobility.<ref>She opened the door, sat in the driver’s seat, and, double-checking nobody could see and that no goblins were creeping near, she leaned into the wheel and cried. For Talbot. For the fact Talbot wasn’t noble.- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref>
She has an adversarial relationship with America Tedd,<ref>America immediately scooped one up from in front of Sullivan, slurping from it.
“I hope that burned your tongue,” Milly told her.- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref> likely due to the goblins.
She was shocked to learn that her father, Hugh Legendre, had offered his relative Cabe, to The Beorgmann in order to bind it again.
Kennet Trio
Argued with Avery about the ethics of killing goblins.<ref>“I’m not happy about this,” Avery told her. “But you’re dangerous, and you don’t even understand why.”
“Is this the fucking goblin thing? You’d condemn me to this? What? Wasting away on this bus? You’re that evil, you’d throw away my life to support them?”- Excerpt from Wild Abandon 18.9</ref>
After her escape and binding of the beorgemann, she shared information with them about Talbot.<ref> - Excerpt from In Absentia 21.5</ref>
Appearance
Her clothes are simple but durable, wearing a denim jacket and stud earrings.<ref>Milly tended toward an aesthetic where her clothes were more simple and durable than they were pretty, but some minor efforts had been made there. She had a cute denim jacket that she’d taken off and now had draped over one knee, and stud earrings.- Excerpt from Wild Abandon 18.9</ref> She takes physically after her father.
Abilities
As a goblin exterminator, she spends much of her time sealing up Warren holes and killing goblins.<ref>“It’s part of the corking up of the warren holes. They pop up, spread through the nearby area, usually in the worst parts of town, then after they reach critical mass, they start spreading out. If you wait until they start spreading out, it’s almost too late. You’ll end up having to seal a building perimeter, burn it down with the goblins still inside, then seal it again.- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.6</ref> This is a roles she's been doing since she was twelve.<ref>“Sounds like you know a lot about it,” Avery said, diplomatically.
“Have to. My dad’s had me doing it for the last three years. Ever since I was twelve.”- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.6</ref>
As a Knight of Seals, rather thenjust a practitioner, she's an expert on sealing, binding and protective diagrams.<ref>“Yeah. You know I’m rock solid on protective wardings, diagrams, seals, bindings.”- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref> She's also been compiling a taxonomy of Wards and other natural Seals.<ref>There’s some research I’ve been doing on the side. Taxonomy of seals and natural wards.- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref>
Sight
She sees breaches in security, showing her the world boarders, boxes and territories. The thickness of the bands can be used to indicate claim.<ref>her Sight warned her of the breach in security. Even though it was his security. She could see the world in borders, boxes, territories, connections running along the walls in bands that got thicker as the claim got greater. Here, the space was uniquely and entirely Alexander’s.- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref>
Tools
- She owns a lantern that drives off observers and forces Augurs to peer past blinding light.<ref>the magic of the warding lantern meant that other observers would be driven off, and augurs would have to peer past blinding light.- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref>
- She can use a bracelet to drain a small percentage of the energy from all the wards she's made and turn it into a kinetic blast.<ref>A practice handed down by wardens of old. A magic circle could be a wall, but it could also be made to do other things when tested. Some shocked the Other that touched it, draining the weakest of them. Others pushed or pushed back. Some cursed those who tested it.
By adding a mark to every major ward she had active, she could collect power. She’d drain one, three, seven percent of each ward’s strength, remotely, gather up all those retaliations, and strike out, translating a share of the stored power of the defenses she’d set up into an offensive strike. One percent wouldn’t break the wards or let anything free- not unless something had gone terribly wrong. But it would let her send the goblin flying. Into her car, head denting the side door and leaving blood in the indent. The stunned goblin scrambled for cover-- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref>
As a lord she could sense people and Others entering her lordship and had massive claim over everything inside it.<ref>She was Lord of this territory, and that responsibility came with power. She could sense the Others here and there. The people who entered, and the people who didn’t. Her claim over the area was extensive, and it came very close to a default assumption that anything that wasn’t already claimed was hers.- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref> Though she has given this up.
Chronology
She has undertaken nine quests given to her by higher powers to bind or seal away monstrosities.<ref>“I serve the forces of karma, I have undertaken nine quests in the last nine years, at the behest of higher powers, to bind, forestall, restrain-”- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.z</ref>
When she was eleven her dad took her to see the victims of a goblin attack that had been horribly murdered, whilst their she was attacked by some goblins but was saved by her father.
She attended the Blue Heron Institute where she did contract work for other students to safeguard their projects.<ref>Milly Legendre, Dabbler, Sealer, Exterminator
Residing in the rear of Workshop C while taking Advanced classes, for privacy and to be closer to certain projects; is doing contract work for other students to safeguard sensitive special projects.- Excerpt from Student Guide</ref>
She had a conversation with Alexander about possibly stay on at the Blue Heron Institute after she graduated, Alexander asked her to justify why she deserved a room, when her awnser failed to account for the politics of her living their she was rejected. Instead she was given a room in workshop C and charged $200 a month in rent.<ref name=":0">- Left in the Dust 16.y</ref>
She sided with Bristow during his attempt to take over the school from Alexander.<ref>Cutting Class 6.7</ref> <ref>“We should side with Mr. Bristow. They’re our friends and allies. Even if their friends aren’t always. If there’s a confrontation.” - Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref>
She was gainsaid by the Carmine Exile for four hundred and sixty three seperate lies, as a result she was unable to perform her lordship ritual forcing Basil Winters to do it instead.<ref>“Milly Legendre,” he said. “I set four-hundred-and-thirty-six small falsehoods at your feet.”- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.z</ref> Her being gainsaid meant that three of her wardings failed, one of which was next another of Musser's Lordship claims causing that claim to fail.<ref>“-we coordinate, layer them. Successive protections. Milly’s got three Others she locked away recently.”
“Near here? Potential challengers?” Basil asked.
She shook her head. “But near one of the other rituals we’re doing simultaneously tonight.”- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.z</ref>
Mr. Musser made her the Lord of Nipigon, a barren place containing a few small towns, a section of wilderness and truck stops.<ref>Her realm as a Lord covered a tract of towns smaller than her neighborhood back home, wilderness, and a lot of truck stops. It wasn’t a realm many would want to be Lord of, but here she was. - Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.y</ref> As Lord she refused some goblins the right to stay in her lordship, attacking them after they attempted to argue their case.<ref name=":0" />
She was visited by America, Fernanda and Sullivan. The four of them visited the Beorgmann so that Milly could repair it's binding but was attacked by Thunder Bay before she could complete it. In a moment of desperation she made a deal with the Beorgmann to fight the invaders, in return he had to release three of his captives and return and wait to be bound of a month. Even with the Beorgmann's help she was unable to keep her lordship. <ref name=":0" />
Afterwards Milly attempted to regroup with other allies of Musser's but was attacked by Bridge who released Basil Winter's bound Bugges on them. During the assault Bridge managed to take over her body.<ref>But Bridge was reaching out. She didn’t finish gesturing or swinging her arm before he caught her hand, in a sudden, violent clasp of hands.
The watch he wore slid from his right wrist, down his hand, to her wrist. Milly’s nose broke, and cuts marked her fingers.- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.z</ref>
Avery visited her whilst she was imprisoned on one of Odis's buses, asking her to bind the Beorgmann. She then handcuffed her and left her there refusing to let her go even after Milly promised to agree to a truce and stop killing goblins.<ref>“Right. I, Milly Legendre, Knight of Seals, Blue Heron graduate, agree to abide by this truce and this deal.”
...
“No deal,” Avery said.- Excerpt from Wild Abandon 18.9</ref> Whilst leaving Avery deliberately drops a key so that she could escape.<ref>- Wild Abandon 18.9</ref> Later Milly managed to rebind the Beorgmann.<ref>If we stopped, he was going to take issue with the fact Milly got free on her own and stopped the Child-thief, the Beorgmann.- Excerpt from Crossed with Silver 19.3</ref>
