Laila Throop is a practitioner specialising in Curses, she attended the Blue Heron Institute in the summer of 2020.

Relationships

Laila and Fernanda were friends, the two of them fell out after Fernanda gainsaid Lalia,

Her and Melody stopped being friends after she cursed her, after talking to Verona Melody tried to reache out to her.<ref>“Any chance you’ll make up with Laila, Melody?” Verona asked.

“Hmm?  I was waiting for her to make up with me.  If I go to her it implies I forgive her and I really don’t.  If she comes to me, even if she’s not actually apologizing, then it’s a bit apology-ish.”

“If Laila doesn’t reach out, we need you to.  If you guys can’t put stuff aside… is it really fair for us to jump into things?  We need to be better, less petty.”

Melody sighed.

“I know it sucks.  She was awful to you, for no apparent reason. But stuff was going on, like strife, I think.”

She told Avery that she was scared just before the fight with Bristow and Avery tried to comfort her.

Abilities

She can create cursed breath that looks like wisps of smoke with claws in them that chokes the person being targeting.<ref>The wisps that escaped her mouth took shapes, like clawed hands, and snaking tendrils.

A moment later, she choked, as a wisp of something snaked into her nose.  When her mouth opened, more traces of whatever got into her mouth.

She doubled over, and Laila pushed her to the ground, putting a knee on her chest and leaning over.  Now the wisps cascaded down over and around her face and head.- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.2</ref>

Chronology

She attacked Melody by putting a curse on her, the pair of them almost got expelled as a result but Alexander interceded.She, Fernanda, and several boys swum in the river together, Damaryon Steyn peeked at her whilst she changed, in revenge Fernanda throw his cloths and wallet in the river and Laila stomped on his phone and cursed it.<ref>Laila stomped on the phone, cracking it, then kept her foot there.

“Drive this suffering home,” Laila whispered.  Fernanda smiled.

The phone shuddered, and something screamed as it slithered down from Laila’s hand, down the side of her pants leg, and plunged into the phone.  The screen flickered violently, making static-y whimpering sounds, with contorted human-ish shapes straining against the cracked glass, each appearing for a second, disappearing and being replaced by another, in rapid succession.

While the boy was cussing, Fernanda tossed the wallet downriver.- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref> After the incident she and Fernanda talked together and Fernanda managed to manipulate her into agreeing to share information about practice and to back her up. After Alexander forswore Seth Fernanda used this information to gainsay her.

When Kevin Noone broke into Alexander's office he used his evil eye on a picture of her.<ref>He just knew that he wanted to be a god, capable of smiting those who stood against him, and one student named Laila Throop was on the opposing side and had a really strong resemblance to someone from his past that he hated.

“Her next.”  He tapped her photograph, and Shellie began putting the box up around the diorama, to set the scene.- Excerpt from Gone Ahead 7.a</ref> Later during the fight with Bristow Laila's nerve broke and she made a run for it, Avery tried to go after her but she tripped and fell, hitting her head against the ground. The force of the impact resulted in her death.
