Seth Luke Belanger<ref name=":1"/> is a member of the Belanger Circle and Alexander's nephew, he has a history of causing trouble.<ref>Seth Belanger
Seth, once one of the biggest troublemakers at the BHI and the nearby towns, is now a graduate. He serves the Belanger circle and assists with special projects on request while deciding on a course in life.- Excerpt from Student Guide</ref>
Personality
He is mean, lazy and selfish, he has repeatedly failed tasks and been bailed out due to his family connections.<ref name=":0" />
Relationships
When he was younger Seth mother struggled to take care of him so his grandmother took over, after his grandmother was taken to the hospital his mother asked Alexander Belanger to take him as his apprentice.<ref name=":1">“Do you remember when your grandmother was in the hospital, Seth?” Alexander asked.
“Of course. But using my dead grandmom here is pretty low.”
“Your mother couldn’t take care of you, you were too much a wild youth, too recalcitrant, aggressive, prone to running away. Your mother couldn’t work and care for you at the same time. Your grandmother took over. When she went to the hospital, you threw a party. Trashed her house.”
Seth’s fingernails scraped against the painted surface where the door should be. His hand dropped. “I was a kid. And you’re keeping me prisoner, in violation of the spirit of your demesne.”
“I know you were a kid, Seth. I do. Your mother was distraught. She called me, I came, I took over. I talked to your grandmother, I had Wye help clean the house. I sat at her bedside when you wouldn’t.”
“And? Karma?” Seth asked.
“I know the promises you made her, as she lay there dying. To be better. To meet your potential. To try. I am prepared to name you forsworn, Seth Luke Belanger.” - Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref>
Alexander asked Wye's mother if she would look after him for a few weeks but she refused.<ref>I have talked to the family about Seth on many occasions. I have talked with your mom, Wye, at least three times. Asking her if she would take a hand in helping with him, take him in for a few weeks to give him a change of scenery, or have a word with him. She could never spare the time.- Excerpt from Borrowed Eyes Comic</ref> She was angry after learning that he had been made forsworn.<ref>Wye: You know, laughs aside, my mom was apoplectic, the last time I talked with her.
Alexander: A good word, apoplectic. Over Seth?- Excerpt from Borrowed Eyes Comic</ref>
Him and Tanner smoked cannabis together.<ref>Chase and Seth jeered, laughing. They were the ones smoking joints.- Excerpt from Stolen Away 2.z</ref>
Seth attempted to chat up America Tedd.<ref>Verona looked the other way, and spotted the eighteen-ish Seth talking up America Tedd, who was… about as old as students got without being senior students. Verona couldn’t recall her exact age. She wasn’t sure if she was uncomfortable seeing it because Seth was a bit older and in a position here, or if she was uncomfortable because America Tedd seemed like the kind of girl who’d bite a boy’s tongue off mid-kiss.- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.3</ref>
Seth and Nicolette both intensely dislike each other, Seth harassed and insulted her and treated her with disrespect.<ref>“You know you’re not welcome here,” Seth said. “He says it’s for your privacy, but you get the guest room instead of actual apprentice quarters because you don’t really count.”
- Excerpt from Stolen Away 2.z</ref> Nicolette for her part resented the way he was treated better than her whilst also behaving worse.<ref>Seth came to the school after I did and got more of just about everything, including a spot in the inner circle. He didn’t try, he didn’t work for it. He’d come here and go off to that little town you were in yesterday, to mess around, steal, and compete with some other guys over this girl that used to live there. But he was blood, he was invited to Alexander’s study- Excerpt from Gone Ahead 7.4</ref>
He got annoyed at Snowdrop due to not understanding her rule of discource, later when she was targetted by the Brownies he refused to help her and said he has glad that someone "took the hit".<ref>“I’m going to make a deposit in the men’s washroom, so no.”
“But-”
“No. Maybe if you were, like, sixteen and…” He looked her up and down. “Actually, could look past the clothes.”
“Can you help me?” she asked, trying to keep to the question thing. “What do I do if the kitchen staff are mad at me?”
He snorted. “I don’t know, but I’m glad.”
“Glad?”
“Someone’s gotta take the hit. Now, excuse me. Try not to become too big a mess, because Nicolette’s in class and I’ll probably be the one tasked with cleaning it up before we end up traumatizing a client.” He fake-coughed. “I mean student.”- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.x</ref>
After he was made forsworn Wye Belanger wondered if Alexander hadn't kept him from improving so that he could later destroy him.<ref>He struggled. And I wonder if you kept him in a place where he struggled so you could stay confident you could utterly destroy him when and if it was convenient.- Excerpt from Borrowed Eyes Comic</ref>
Appearance
He's skinny with wild, dark red hair and stubble.<ref name=":0">Seth was another Belanger, but unlike Wye, he hadn’t taken the opportunity he’d been given and leveraged it to bigger and better things. He took it for granted, he failed, he was rescued because that was what family was supposed to do, he failed again, he was rescued, and he found his way to success. Dark brown hair, slight stubble, skinny, eyes glowing.- Excerpt from Stolen Away 2.z</ref><ref>Seth was apparently one of Belanger’s apprentices, a surly looking teen with wild hair.
- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.6</ref><ref>It was a skinny guy, surly-looking, with a bit of a slouch, and a mop of red-brown hair.- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.x</ref>
Abilities
When reading cards he could manage a three by three arrangement.<ref>Wye was good enough with the cards to teach it. They had students do a two-by-two arrangement, very vague, and when students hit the wall, they would have them figure out how and why, and if anyone could work their way past that wall. Seth had been able to do a three-by-three arrangement, Nicolette was about the same, though she could stretch things out to a four-by-four with focus. Tanner and Wye could do a four-by-four confidently.- Excerpt from Gone and Done It 17.y</ref>
Chronology
He insulted Nicolette whilst in Alexander's office, angering Alexander who forced him to leave. He later went after Nicolette and threatened her, she retaliated by setting an Omen of Discord on him.
During the fight for the school Bristow tried to turn Alexander's apprentices, for Seth he offered him five-hundred and thirty thousand dollars, a position in another family with a daughter he could marry and an easy job involving little effort.<ref>“Five hundred and fifty thousand dollars, respect, a position in another family, who have a daughter a year younger than Seth. They do simple work, keeping track of some elusive Others, they would appreciate Seth’s augury, and if he wasn’t a complete asshole, marriage to the daughter would be inevitable. For someone who doesn’t want to work, it’s… a fine offering. Isn’t it, Seth?”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref> Seth refused to say if he would take the deal or not so Alexander named him forsworn. He used a promise he'd made to his grandmother on her death bed, a promise to be better which he broken when he threw a party in her house whilst she was dying.<ref name=":1" /> The party was so disruptive the police were called in.<ref>“If those promises had any merit, even in sentiment, then you would have at least managed to hold off on fucking up until after she’d passed. But the police called her, and she knew. To the grave, she knew.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref>
After being made forsworn Nicolette Belanger took custody of him and offered him her protection.<ref>“I would give Seth Belanger my protection for the time being,” Nicolette said. “I would take him into my custody, and be a shield between him and the world.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.z</ref> The process left him catatonic, he had trouble eating<ref>“Yeah. Yeah, I ate in my room, then I tried to make Seth eat.”-Excerpt from Gone Ahead 7.4</ref> and his karma was so bad he couldn't even watch TV.<ref>“I put him in a protective circle after something got at him, last night. Spiritual parasites. Purged them, moved the bed, set up the circle. He was catatonic, even before the parasites, but I got it so he’s at least watching television. It’s a step toward showing interest in the world again.”
“That’s, um… good?” Verona guessed.
“It’s something. Even if the television won’t stay on for long if I’m not there. The power shorts just long enough for it to turn off, or the internet connection hangs.”- Excerpt from Vanishing Points 8.5</ref>
Seth is visited by Maricica disguised as Kassidy Knox, she passed him magic items that he used to free Charles Abrams, the three of them then fled together though Seth was caught.<ref>- Break 1</ref>
He was convinced to wait on his own repeal due to the larger plan by the practitioners opposing the new Carmine.<ref>I know Seth Belanger was urged to hold back from appealing his forswearing, because Musser wanted to diminish the Carmine’s power further, first, before putting it to the question. - Excerpt from Gone and Done It 17.9</ref>
Many months later, around November, he visited the Alabaster Doe to appeal his forswearing, she refused to see him and the Carmine Exile stepped in instead, returning him to normal.<ref>“I appeal my forswearing. I ask you to undo it, Carmine Exile.”
“Done.”- Excerpt from Wild Abandon 18.z</ref> He later stayed to help the judge.
