Raquel Musser is a student at the Blue Heron Institute and niece to Abraham Musser.

Personality

She is frustrated at the lack of position and respect she gets within the family and feels excluded due to a lack of support.<ref>“The chosen heir gets all the privilege, all the attention, love, hope, and expectations.  Meanwhile, there’s someone who gets the opposite.  No privilege, no power, no inheritance, no hope or expectations.  But they want it.  The kid who has it doesn’t care, and the kid who doesn’t have it craves it.  That’s Raquel.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.9</ref>

Relationship

Raquel, Yadira Kenedy and Kassidy Knox are friends but recently Raquel and Kassidy's relationship has come under strain. Their families were intending to enter into a marriage alliance together but after discovering that the groom was abusive the Musser's stole their collection of magic items and killed Kassidy's grandfather.<ref>“-these two became unlikely friends.”

Kass retorted, “Raquel’s family and their friends made like they wanted a marriage to unite collections, then reneged, took my family’s shit and killed my grandfather when he tried to stop them.”

Her mother, Billie Musser was removed from the family for becoming to independent.

She was raised by her uncle Abraham Musser after her mother was removed from the family.<ref>“Uncle.  But he raised me, more or less, after my mother was removed from the family.”

Her cousin, Reid Musser also doesn't consider her a proper family member and treats her with disrespect.<ref>“You’re of the Mussers, but you’re not a Musser, Raquel.  You know the distinction.  Now, are you done interrupting what I’d intended to be a conversation with my friend?”- Excerpt from False Moves 12.z</ref> He dislikes her choice of friends and feels that she doesn't do enough to better the family.<ref>Because she’d made those mistakes several times.  She’d had days on the school campus where it could be said she did nothing that bettered her position or the family’s.  She’d befriended Yadira Kennedy, who was of a family of appreciable standing, but of an offshoot branch, never to hold the reins, and Kassidy Knox, a chubby little brat who was so far from holding a position that mattered that she could try while having all the luck in the world, and never get there.- Excerpt from False Moves 12.z</ref> Later he expressed a wish that she had something wholly her own. Raquel was on Bristow's side during his fight with Alexander<ref>“Nah, you’re okay.  Raquel and I like Bristow.”- Excerpt from Cutting Class 6.3</ref> and spent a year training with him to learn more about being a collector.<ref name=":0">“I got some training.”

“Was that training with Bristow?  Or was Kass’s?”

Whilst talking to the trio she tried to figure out where all their power came from, in order to deter her Verona implied that they had killed someone.<ref>Several people have tried to find out what we’d rather keep secret.  We handled them.”

During the contest for the Carmine's throne Verona advised her to do something big and act more independantly if she wants her family to respect her.<ref>“You have to do something bigger.  Make a big call, make a big move.  And right now?  Knowing everything I know?  If this goes topsy turvy and you were there saying you should get involved, or getting involved and helping, like you just did with the mirror?  Maybe that counts, maybe that means he has to listen to you and respect the calls you want to make.  Get out from behind that way.”- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.12</ref>

She accused Avery and her friends of having a biased perspective on the situation in Kennet, associating with dangerous Others and destabilising practitioner society.<ref>“You don’t know this world, Kelly,” Raquel said, intense, bitterness oozing into the words.  “You’re new to this, you’re getting skewed perspectives, you’re playing in this blood-soaked pigpen with some clearly dangerous Others, and interfering in things you don’t understand.  I’ve lived this shit since I was little.  I don’t think you even had an inkling about this world when I was dealing with my mom being disappeared one night, because she developed an independent streak.  You need to shut your mouth, put the magic stuff away, and leave this alone until you can get a better education on how this world really works.  Or put it away and go away for good, ideally.”

Afterwards Avery started sending her suggestions on what movies to watch.<ref>Avery shrugged a shoulder.  “Mostly I’m recommending films and shows for her to watch, because she’s horribly behind on all the pop culture stuff.  She hadn’t seen a blockbuster film since she was eight.”- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.1</ref>

Abraham Musser tried to arrange a marriage between Raquel and Basil Winter, he was uninterested in the match but hide the fact.<ref>“Don’t be,” she interrupted.  “Because if he asks me, I’ll tell him what you said.  We’re not married yet, I don’t know you, I have no reason to keep your secrets.”

He digested that.  “Then I’ll keep to things he won’t mind.  Non-secrets.”

Appearance

She has long wavy brown hair tied into a bun. She wears pearl earnings.<ref>Raquel was wearing a dress, her hair up in a swirly sort of bun that wasn’t super neat, but seemed un-neat in a way that was very designed, with locks of hair peeling off intentionally.  Strands of hair ran down in front of her ears, which had pearl studs in them.  She was tall, slender, with brown hair that had a natural wave in it, and something about her made Verona think she was a girl with money who just happened to ride horses, because she had that look.- Excerpt from Vanishing Points 8.6</ref>

Sol attempted to find which element she had an affinity to, at the behest of his mother.

During a school trip she and Verona helped check the disguise for two fall fae whilst shopping together.

She and Reid accompanied Abraham Musser to Kennet after he learned about Alexander's death. Whilst there she was put in charge of finding somewhere for them to stay but her and Avery were attacked by the Witch Hunter Cleo Aleshire. Raquel almost got her finger cut off but managed to escape. She later used an item to heal the wound, leaving a scare ringing her thumb.<ref name=":1">Raquel held up a hand, an unsightly scar ringing her thumb, where the Witch Hunter had apparently dragged a tool through skin as she sought the angle to cut the digit off.  She hadn’t finished.

Miss approached her, Reid and Wye offering to let them escape during an upcoming battle against Witch Hunters.<ref> I’m hopeful those three won’t get as involved with the Witch Hunters or you until this all resolves, but we do intend to act with their wishes in mind.  Your uncle and Reid’s father Abraham Musser intends to battle.  He’s already given instructions to his Others.  I’ve talked with Avery and the local council.  If you find this battle is too much, raise your hands and flee the fight.  We’ll see what we can do to clear the way and guard your retreat.- Excerpt from False Moves 12.z</ref> An option it's implied she took.

Wye later asks Lucy, Verona and Avery to try and look out for Reid and Raquel.

After Musser picked Reid to enter the contest for the Carmine's throne she contemplated jumping in herself at a critical moment to beat Reid because of how unhappy she was with her life. Avery gave her the trio's email addresses and tried to cheer her up.<ref>- Summer Break 13.9</ref>

Avery visited her along with other allies of Musser's to arrange for them to sell things to Kennet Market. During the meeting it was revealed that she had gotten engaged to shore up Abraham's relationships with his supporters.<ref>She had a gold band around her ring finger, one large diamond inset in it, two smaller diamonds beside it.- Excerpt from Crossed with Silver 19.14</ref>

Raquel reached out to Avery and ask for help in avoiding her promise to marry one of the Ehrharts. Avery took her to see the Alabaster Doe to ask her theirs a way around the Oath, she said their was no escaping it and refused to help. The Carmine Exile appeared, told her to make a promise that contradicts the one she made earlier then forswore her. Afterwards she appealed the forswearing and was relieved from her oath.<ref>- Let Slip 20.6</ref>
