Cleo Aleshire is a Witch Hunter from Montreal.
Personality
She is violent and deceitful.
She considers Practitioners to get their abilities by cheating and wishes to reclaim what they've taken.<ref>“You were nice enough to send the woman away. But you’re still cheating. You’re still making deals with things best left alone. Those Lighthouse guys, they train, they hone talents, they get really good if they can stick around. But us? We reclaim, we take back what you cheated to get. I’ll snip off fingers and keep them because they have some power in them. I’ll get your things, take ’em back, we’ll work out how they work, figure out who can use them best.”- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.5</ref>
Relationship
She has a working relationship with members of the Light House but isn't personally close to any of them.<ref>From my observation, the one on the motorcycle doesn’t fit the group. She’s an ally of theirs, they know her from passing meetings, but she isn’t a bosom companion.- Excerpt from False Moves 12.8</ref>
She has decided to take Francis under her wing and might take him back to Montreal with her.<ref>“I’m from the Montreal group, but we’re really incestuous. Trade people all the time. We lost a few the other night, the others are a bit lost, they’re waiting for reinforcements and marching orders, so I’m taking Francis under my wing. Might take him back to Montreal for a bit. Give him an education in our methods.”- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.5</ref>
Appearance
She's a black women, with short oiled hair, red lipstick and heavy eye liner.<ref>Cleo Aleshire from Montreal. A different breed. Thirty or so, black, hair short and oiled close to the scalp, red lipstick, heavy eye shadow, and a level stare.
She hadn’t gone to the Lighthouse to get any particular talents sharpened or honed or pulled out of her. No, she’d taken another route.- </ref>She has a narrow waist, large chest and long legs. She wears a loose fitting shirt with a necklace underneath and carries a camera and a large bag.<ref>She wore a loose-fitting shirt with decorative trim at the wide collar and hem, a draping necklace that was hidden by the shirt, and she had an old-fashioned camera with a flash provided through a box mounted on top, hanging from a strap at her neck, and a cube-ish shaped bag at her hip, strap extending to the far shoulder. She looked more a photographer than anything, or a tourist- she looked like she stood out, and she already had been someone who’d stand out anywhere, with a classic buxom figure, narrow waist, big chest, long legs, but also black skin and a striking, severe expression.- [https://palewebserial.wordpress.com/2021/07/20/false-moves-12-8/ Excerpt from False Moves 12.8</ref>
Abilities
She collects magic items from practitioners she's killed, similar to how a collector works.
- She has a polaroid camera, whenever she develops a picture taken with it anyone inside gets transported back to where they were when the photo was taken.<ref>She plucked the photo from the camera. Still a black square, the actual picture yet to fade in.
And when it did, Avery would reappear where she’d been standing.- Excerpt from False Moves 12.8</ref> She can use it as an emergency escape route, she can also use it to heal herself.<ref>She’d heal, if the ‘moment in time’ camera worked like it had before.-Excerpt from False Moves 12.8</ref> - She has a water pistol<ref name=":0">A water pistol, highlighter-yellow handle, red tip, blue bottle on top, with a zig-zag of a lightning bolt on it.- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.5</ref> filled with water from a fountain of youth gone wrong, anyone hit by it turns to stone.<ref>“A man tried to cheat, tried to beat Death and give his wife and kid immortality. Baptism dunk in an artificial fountain of youth. It worked. Immortality, living forever, free of injury, death, decay, until the immobility set in, weeks later. Living forever, skin turned to stone, eyes darting this way and that inside the shell, if they’re that lucky. We killed him, a generation back, found him with his arms and hands turned to stone to the elbow. Now we’ve got a swimming pool’s worth of the stuff we dip into. We dredge from the bottom, for the faster acting parts.”- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.5</ref>
- A birds foot.<ref>The bag held the water pistol, ammunition, a bird’s foot, a sealed letter with illegible writing on the front, a rasp, a resealable bag of granny candy where the resealable bag was so stiff it didn’t even move when touched, a lens for a camera, badly scuffed up, a bunch of needles, and a bag that looked like it could be a pencil case.- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.5</ref>
- A sealed letter with illegible writing on it<ref name=":0" /> that grants you access or permision. Has an unknown drawback.<ref>“Permission, access, any situation someone would get in your way, hand it over. Stopped for speeding? Give that to the officer instead of your license and registration, they’ll go back to their vehicle, come back, hand it to you, send you on your way. Give it to a bouncer for entry to a club. Access to a wedding or party…”
“Woah,” Lucy said.
“There’s a drawback,” Verona said.
“What’s the drawback?” Avery asked.
“Don’t know.- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.7</ref> - A rasp that when used on one part of someones body it effects all of their body.<ref name=":0" /><ref>So that’s out. The rasp is pretty violent as a tool. If you make contact with it to one part of your body, it extends to the rest of your body, tissue-dependent. Whack the back of your hand and you feel that whack on every inch of skin.”- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.7</ref>
- A resealed bag of granny candies.<ref name=":0" />
- A bunch of needles.<ref name=":0" />
- A pencil case with a tongue in it.<ref>The contents of the pencil case squished like something fluid. She unzipped carefully, wary of making too much noise. She saw what she realized was a moist tongue and zipped the bag closed again.- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.5</ref>
Many of her items where stolen by Verona.
She also wears a necklace containing the fingers of practitioners she's either killed or captured and kept alive as a power source.<ref>That necklace was black cord wrapped around fingers. Twenty or so, some dried up to the point of being mummified, beef jerky skin over bone. Some were fresh, blood oozing out of them still.
“Trophies,” John said. “Something taken from the practitioners she hunts, so she can use their power when she needs it.”
“Why?” Avery asked.
“Because collecting trophies makes it easier to get more trophies,” Cleo said, with her heavy accent. “The ones that still bleed are from the ones I’ve kept alive and confined. The ones who piss me off, or the ones who are small, young, and manageable like you.”- Excerpt from False Moves 12.8</ref>
She rides a motorcycle.<ref>The motorcycle was already parked, but instead of taking a spot, Cleo had pulled it up to the walkway by the front office.- Excerpt from False Moves 12.a</ref>
