The Aurum in Gold is a Judge, governing over much of Ontario and Manitoba.

Personality[edit]

Likes to streamline things, the type of person who discards social niceties for results.<ref>“I value streamlining,” the Aurum replied. - Excerpt from False Moves 12.1</ref>

Prior to becoming a judge he was a Practitioner named Ryan that fused with his familiar, a city spirit called Sovereign.<ref name=":1"> Or your tenure will resemble that of the Aurum line.  Twenty-one years of mouse, thirty of dame, now the practitioner fused with familiar as our Aurum Coil.”- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.2</ref><ref>He’d established a familiar. A bit of city spirit, tied into factory, commercial real estate, road. He’d established a familiar. A bit of city spirit, tied into factory, commercial real estate, road.
Sovereign, he reached out.- Excerpt from Crossed with Silver 19.z</ref>

Relationships[edit]

As a huamn he used to be romantically interested in a women named Lori, after becoming a Judge he used his powers to give her Fortune.<ref name=":0">I gave some fortune to a lady, and some to my brother.- Excerpt from Crossed with Silver 19.z</ref>

He has a brother he runs a business with, later after becoming a Judge he gave him Fortune.<ref>“It’s okay, or it’s going to be, I hope. Started a business with my brother, now I’m doing my own thing.”- Excerpt from Crossed with Silver 19.z</ref><ref name=":0" />

At some point, he visited Edith and "audited" her, warning her against collecting to many enchanted or cursed items.<ref>The Aurum came to audit.”

“Audit what?” Verona asked.

“I don’t know.  But the centipede is said to be a spirit with ties to civilization.  Primarily in the East, but… Canada absorbs cultures from all over.  It’s not unusual that we drew that in.”

...

The audit… the Aurum cautioned us to avoid collecting too many odds and ends.”

“Enchanted things, cursed things,” Matthew said.- Excerpt from Out on a Limb 3.5</ref>

Reminded Avery she has a party to attend, which got her to use a path as a shortcut home rather than trudging home and missing it.<ref>“If you’ve no more questions,” the Aurum Coil said, “don’t you have somewhere to be?”- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.1</ref>

Gainsaid Verona for claiming Finnea was involved with the Carmine Conspiracy.<ref>“How long?” Verona asked.  “I’ll be weak?”

“Several days to a week,” the Aurum reported.  “Your standing was good.  Now it isn’t, but you’ll recover.”- Excerpt from False Moves 12.1</ref>

He transformed Francis into a pile of coins for interfering with the Carmine tournament.<ref>“Careful,” Toadswallow interjected.  “Witch Hunter got turned to coinage, just by that hole in the wall.  I think that’s something like the Brownies at the school.  Looked when we all know we shouldn’t.  I think they’ve made it clear, interfering from the outside will be punished.”- Excerpt from Summer Break</ref> It is unknown if this was terminal.

Appearance[edit]

He appears as an older teenager or young man with long straight black hair and flowing golden robes with wide sleeves. He usually rides atop the head of a centipede<ref>And off to the side, sitting atop the head of a centipede, an older teen or younger adult with long hair and flowing clothes in gold.-Excerpt from Lost for Words 1.3</ref><ref>There was a rasping sound, as centipede leg and segments rasped against trees and wood.  There was a young teen, about Avery’s age, atop its head, wearing what could have been a silk bathrobe from the way it hung on him, in glittering gold.  His hair was straight, fine, and black, his eyes peering through the curtain, his thin-lipped smile wide on the one side.- Excerpt from Leaving a Mark 4.1</ref><ref>An older teenager or younger twenty-something with a fresh face, very lively and expressive eyes, and long hair, wearing draping, loose clothing that showed off a V of his hairless upper chest.  Shirt and pants of spun gold, with sleeves big enough to fit six of his arms inside.- Excerpt from False Moves 12.1</ref>

Abilities[edit]

Prior to becoming the Aurum Ryan was a luck mage who was forced to become a Fugitive, and was able to create a list of numbers the altered the luck of him and those around him,<ref>He had tools and practices. The same things that had drawn the negative attention from a member of the universe’s middle management team were ways to handle her. The fragment of the shooting star for something big, numbers for nudges and tricks… except he only had fifteen numbers left.- Excerpt from Crossed with Silver 19.z</ref> he also had a shooting star that allowed him to reset his other tools.<ref>Use of the shooting star was that. A big hit of Fortune, that drew way too much attention, but also acted like a reset button on his other tools. He could trust that where he’d folded the paper was the right number now.- Excerpt from Crossed with Silver 19.z</ref>

He governs and to an extent represents commerce, civilization, technology, exchanges and games.<ref name=":0" /><ref>“Alabaster is more nature-y,” Avery said.  “Aurum is the guy on the centipede, technology and the modern world, right?  Money?”- Excerpt from Dash to Pieces 11.8</ref> He is the Judge in charge of managing new forms of discourse such as music, drama and technology.<ref>As the Judge most concerned with commerce and civilization, the Aurum Coil manages new rules of discourse, such as music, drama, or technological modes of communication.- Excerpt from Dash to Pieces 11.3</ref>

If attacked with the intent to kill or to replace him on the throne he sets a contest for his attacker.<ref>The Carmine fights back, normally, the Sable sets a price on his killing, and the Aurum makes it a contest.”- Excerpt from Dash to Pieces 11.8</ref>

Will often appear before a hero and give them a powerful artifact just before the final fight.<ref>“Yeah.  Often the Alabaster, for guidance, but sometimes the Sable or some other deathly gatekeeper will bring them back for one last shot.  Sometimes a lady in gold to give them a treasure, equip them for the final confrontation or whatever.”- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.1</ref>
