Gone and Done It 17.a is the eighth chapter of Gone and Done It. Liz Driscoll and a group are working for Musser, after being interrupted at a dinner they reorientation and head to Kennet. They find it a very dangerous place indeed.

Plot[edit]

Elizabeth Driscoll is in a cafe with Milo Songetay, Cynthia Gaspard and Angie Demarest. Elizabeth and Cynthia notice suspicious individuals outside. The walls start to turn green and bits of metal start turning to gold.

In Elizabeth's sight of one figure has a frame so vast she can’t see it, the other has imagery that keeps altering. The Turtle Queen attempts to capture one of Queen Sootsleeves' pigeons, but is rebuffed, and the two of them leave.

Cyn drops all their phones into a glass of water. Elizabeth pulls out a living map and finds out they're heading to Kennet where the trio come from. They discuss the trio and their history.

Elizabeth uses the cafe's landline to call her dad and update him on what happened, he informs her about the Turtle Queen and asks her to go to Kennet and figure out what’s what. Her dad talks about how their fortunes have improved due to their association with Abraham Musser but Liz is uneasy about it. She compares what’s happening now to what happened with Alexander Belanger and Lawrence Bristow.

She asks for help from someone to manage connections and offload Angie.

As they go to leave, Angie insults Liz and tries to get her to agree to fight her, Milo has to restrain her. They head off to Kennet.

Upon arrival Elizabeth does diagnostics of Kennet using her many practice tools. Using her Sight she sees the town drowning as well as the blood stain left by the death of the Carmine Beast, the town is cut off and people leaving, the knotting.

Eloise Miraz arrives and tells them Marlen Roy is being held captive here. Elizabeth fills people in about Kennet’s ability to shut off practice.

Liz uses a half-burnt coin to go into the Kennet Undercity, as she does the Turtle Queen uses her influence to attempt to take over the area, only to be stopped by Eloise.

They enter the town and Liz uses a practice to see past events, seeing the Family Man capturing Marlen.

Eloise points to the Kennet Arena and they briefly see two figures there before they vanish. She says that Goblins have been spying on them.

They reach Matthew Moss's house, seeing Edith James outside.

Three of Musser’s allies appear, including a Hennigar, and give them advice on what to expect. Elizabeth enters the house, says she wants to free Marlen and asks to speaks the girls. She suggests negotiating with Musser, that they would have peace and security if they did, but Matthew rejects it due to the kind of man Musser is and what him being in charge would mean for Others like him.

Elizabeth says that Matthew is more human than Other now. Matthew pushes her for a contest and she “no contests”.

She heads outside and a car starts rolling towards them before exploding, goblins close on them from all sides. The Hennigar roars and the goblins run.

The Hennigar targets the group of Musser allies to avoid the consequences of the roar, and they flee to the Undercity, leaving Milo behind to fight him.

In the Undercity are more goblins, Undercity residents, and Verona Hayward, who surround them. They flip back to Kennet Above, and face innocents kept unaware by Jabber, the wrecked car controlled by Montague, and Lucy, who asks them to surrender.

Elizabeth refuses.
