Leaving a Mark 4.1 is the first chapter of Leaving a Mark. Avery meets and updates Seats, weeks after the previous chapter. Places a call and walks her second path with some help. Gets home in time for a party.

A white clothed women greets Avery welcoming her and snowdrop. After having her offer of food refused and putting flowers on their heads, they follower her further into the clearing. She finally talks to Avery, admitting not having done so for months.

Similarly clothed people mill around, then an enormous deer appears. It implodes, dissipating until only a women remains. Avery and snowdrop are in the Alabaster Doe's domain. the master of the realm and her peers, they approach to talk.

Avery lets them know of the situation as the trio understands it. That the Carmine beast was killed by the Hungry Choir, which was seemingly created for that purpose. Avery asks questions about the Judges responsibilities and their history. Not being able to ask any more questions she prepares to head back. She is informed that the Judges will appoint the next Carmine by the end of the summer, and that she should be somewhere.

After confirming over text with the others she makes the trade of Zed's tape in exchange for help navigating a path. Placing a call she sets up the meeting with With Zed's experienced Finder family allies. Avery and Snowdrop sets up several toy cars upside down with the track on top, with the blocks arranged as houses on top, she then 'intones' "hustle and bustle" repeatedly while spinning the construction until the thing grows large and enfolds them and they enter Zoomtown.

There they meet Jude, the have a professional talk about paths and finder particulars. Zoomtown's benefits and drawbacks, and the exchange of the tape Zed really wants back. After getting tabs on the Path Snowdrop insists that Jude write out instructions on how to use the path incase he gets into trouble and can't help Avery. With that they set out.

It is loud and horrible. Ear protection is a must. after acquitting herself well initially Jude endangers their lives by stopping and asking if Avery has a boyfriend and disappointed by the response. She hurries on, Jude has to take a detour to catch up, she gets catcalled by an Other women who claims them using this Path Murders people in the thousands. She has an effect but not much of one. Avery doesn't fall for it but it makes an impact.

Meeting up with Jude Avery and snowdrop manage to land ay the 'finish line'. Avery returns the tape and the unused instructions reaffirms her homosexuality. She starts what could be an alliance to become a better Finder. She says goodbye to Jude and heads up


Into what turns out to be a regular storm drain.

Walking home she meets herself looking fabulous in a red dress. Lucy has been preparing to go as her to a party. Glamoured to as Avery to hide her absence from her family. They fill each other in on what happened, make plans to go back to the Kelly house to change and head off.
