Left in the Dust 16.z is the twelth chapter of Left in the Dust.
Plot
After three artists create similar images involving green, black and gold jewellery it leads to the creation of a bugge, an other that thrives on attention, next a guidance councillor slaps a student and it records and shown on TV. After she slaps two teenagers lighting fireworks she becomes an urban legend and vigilantes associated with her start appearing.
Opal and Basil Winters are informed about it and upon reaching the area find that the Turtle Queen had completely taken it over, the town is Knotted and Others have been invited in as guards. She tries to escape the town by creating a website to sell her image but Basil manages to bind her.
Back in the present Crooked Rook and Bridge talks to the Turtle Queen, asking her to join them. There also a girl with red numbers in her eyes and a pixelated cat.
Milly creates a warding circle to avoid being captured, then she calls out to her aunt Ursanne for help. She involks the duties she’s performed in order to protect her but Basil use the Beorgmann she released to counter her claim and Bridge manages to take her over.
Countdown Cassandra and the Typetap Kitty head off to find Ursanne, Ursanne asks Cassandra about her countdown, she tells her ones for the meeting in the living room the others for an event this afternoon.
America stop the Countdown Other but the Typetap Kitty jumps on her and crawls up her leg
Hennigar says that something is wrong and everyone suddenly realises they’re being attacked, at that moment the Turtle Queen walks in.
Sarah Driscoll spots Countdown Cassandra and Cassandra tells her that theirs always one that survives and to cover her ears and shut her mouth. Cassandra reaches the TV as the countdown reaches zero. Lightning strikes the house, creating confusion and shattering lightbulbs. Bugges and Fancies descend upon the assembled practitioners.
Cassandra sneaks away and stumbles across America who manages to bind her. Driscoll tries to warn everyone not to use their phones but someone does and the Typetap Kitty bites them through their phone allowing her to extend power through it.
Back in Toronto Grayson Hennigar and Abraham Musser are talking about the dissatisfaction of their allies, they wonder if arranged marriages could solve the problem.
The Typetap Kitty sucks the power out of Musser’s phone, it then leaves and finds Musser’s wife Carolyn cooking, after she’s finishes it jumps down and starts typing on her laptop.
Avery, Rook and Bridge are together, Avery mentions she finds the situation morally uncomfortable.
Bridge says he’s going to bind the Beorgmann, Avery offers one of her favours from Sootsleeves to help. Their told that three of the children are claimed by a stronger entity and they were unable to take hold of them and they managed to escape.
Avery asks if they can let America go and Rook refuses. Rook tells her Anthem only walked away from fighting them because he’d been gainsaid.
Bridge says that Charles is currently working on Musser’s lieutenant and that it might make the situation worse.
