Signature 8.4 is the fourth chapter of Signature.
Plot
The girl with the checkered scarf wakes up to see Sandra preparing breakfast for her. After a little mix up with cranberry juice, Sandra explains why she is helping her. She reveals that her rival, Laird, likely won't be coming back to Jacob's Bell, so she's gathering as many allies as possible to challenge Johannes. Unfortunately Sandra doesn't know how to restore the girl's Self, so is settling for nudging her towards Johannes in exchange she doesn't attack the Duchamps.
After finishing her shower, Sandra prepares to teach her a minor enchantress ritual. The girl writes down a lot of personal information so she can see the strength of her remaining connections. With that now known, Sandra offers possible solutions such as waiting until Padraic gets bored or to give up on ever getting back the name. She finishes by explaining how she may die from a lack of a name. The newly motivated girl receives a knife before finally leaving to go ask the Crone Mara for help.
As the girl with the checkered scarf traverses through the Crone's territory, she obediently follows Sandra's advice to always take the hardest path. Upon reaching the house, she meets a chained little girl begging for freedom. The chained girl turned out to be the Crone herself. Our protagonist tries to negotiate for assistance, but is turned down right away.
