Biopunk is a genre, or perhaps series, of movie. Blake compared a Homonculus to the types of creature seen in these films.<ref>I could see some of the homunculus.  Its flesh looked like it was ninety percent callus, the worst sort of callus that appeared on the feet, as dirt and sweat colored it yellow and gray.  Being homeless, working for a farmer, living at Carl’s commune, I’d had chances to build up some pretty gruesome calluses.

But it went a step beyond.  Large patches of its flesh had almost ossified, or calcified, or something. It, in simple terms, looked as tough as dammit.

Makes me think of those biopunk movies, I thought. - Excerpt from Execution 13.8</ref>

Behind the Scenes

Twig, another story by Wildbow, is frequently described as "biopunk" - much like "steampunk" stories, it takes place in a technologically-advanced Victorian-esque world, but Twig features advanced biological science rather than steam power.

It's likely that Blake saw some films based on Twig, just as Weaver Dice is based on Wildbow's Parahumans series, and the "Maggie Holt series" has been referenced by characters in some of Wildbow's other works.
