Feorgbolds or life vessels are a type of homunculus in the world of Pact, often used by Briar Girl and made from corpses. Those under Briar Girl's command typically appear to be human-sized creatures wearing cloaks and bird-masks, and act according to the will of their maker and carries it out as best they can.
Creation[edit]
Briar Girl briefly describes that she created hers from corpses of the homeless or people no one would claim, purify them, wash them clean, decorate them, and then give them something from herself as a power source to bring them into life.<ref>She gestured towards the bird-mask things.
“For the feorgbold, I had to dig up and barter for the corpses no one would claim. I walked from here to Toronto and back, a full day and night to get there, longer to get back, dragging the body in a suitcase behind me. I purified them, I washed them utterly clean, I decorated them with care, and I gave of myself to bring them forth. Excerpt from Breach 3.2</ref>
The method, while not exactly humane, is balanced as it is recycling from nature. Presumably this means they do not bring negative Karma.<ref>“Feorgbold, life vessels,” the Briar Girl said. “Recycling. Death, consumption and rebirth are parts of the cycle of nature. Some of my favorite parts. I could do what I do a hundred thousand times over, and there would still be balance. - Excerpt from Breach 3.2</ref>
Trivia[edit]
The term Feorgbold roughly translates to "house of spirit/life" and traces back to an ancient poem called "The Dream of the Rood". The poem describes the author having a dream where he speaks with the cross on which Jesus was crucified.
