Plot
Maggie Holt explains the Faeries' past and provides examples to illustrate how they torment high school students for fun. A member of the Junior Council joins Maggie to check on her progress with the contract, to which Maggie agrees to finish it after school. They also start chatting about Padraic and the issues that come with Others like him. Maggie ponders about the damage Others are doing to Jacob's Bell and how too few are willing and capable of stopping them.
Later at Maggie's home, she has dinner with her dads and accidently reminds them of the prophecy. After finishing their meal, Maggie goes to her room to check on Buttsack. She suddenly receives a message from Blake asking for info, but is unable to help due to her potential contract with the Junior Council. Her dad asks if she wants to go eat at her favorite restaurant, and is immediately answered with a yes.
At the restaurant, Essylt and Padraic join her family for a meal. Having finished her food, she begins interrogating Padraic about his motives. He simply wants Maggie to consider helping Blake, and is willing to offer a great deal of power in exchange. She agrees, but ends up falling for Faerie trickery. Padraic takes Maggie's name and all the power it comes with. The girl with the checkered scarf is left behind and forgotten.
