Cole Oslon is a practitioner that encountered a Complex Spirit while visiting the Spirit World.

Personality

As a child Cole was a liar and a bully.<ref name=":0" /> After leaving prison he became even harder and meaner.<ref name=":1">Cole was released, but he came back harder, meaner, and connected.  He hadn’t even pretended to try to go to school, and disappeared with these other youths with criminal backgrounds.  Lucas’s work had suffered-

What was my job?  Who was I?

Relationships

He had an abusive relationship with his step daughter, Bailey.

After giving birth to him, his mother started to doubt both herself and her husband Lucas Olson, creating friction between the two of them.<ref>Lucas’s wife-

He wished he could remember her name.

-had taken the pregnancy hard, had gone from being a mother who could parent three troubled boys in a way most couldn’t, to someone who doubted her every move, inexplicably.  Doubted his.  They’d fought.- Excerpt from Break 4</ref>

He is loved deeply by his father Lucas who blames himself for not doing more to save his son,

Appearance

After becoming Cagerattler, Cole appeared as a distorted skeleton with metal bars attached to the bones. The bones and metal formed a cage used to trap his father in. Some of the bones had rust or scraps of flesh on them.<ref>There was a distorted skeleton with metal welded to bones that still had tatters of raw flesh on them, with a layered corrosion on the bones like bogeymen John had encountered from the deeper parts of the Abyss.  Some of that corruption leaked into the wood beneath its feet.  Bone and metal formed a cage and within the cage was a man, thin and too long-limbed for the cage he occupied.  Stooped, head bent low, long black curls falling into his lap, he held onto horizontal bars as best as he could.  His eyes were sweet.  He looked as pure as the cage was corrupt.- Excerpt from Break 4</ref> Chains dangled from him and shackles bound his father's right hand and left foot. His heart was at the top of the cage, within reach of his father.

Abilities and Tools

Cole possessed several tools including a lantern<ref>Most importantly, the man, Cole, carried a lantern.  The fire of it caught her eye and drew her in. - Excerpt from One After another 10.z</ref>, clothes that made him stronger in the spirit world<ref>He was decked out in clothing that belonged here, and it made him strong. - Excerpt from One After another 10.z</ref>, and salt.<ref>“Not a spirit, are you?  Not wholly?” he asked.  He reached for a pocket.

This time, he flung something out.  It was pure and it was clean and it cut through her like thrown razors.  She moved back, pained, candles broken and falling away, flesh torn, the edges now tattered and smoking away. - Excerpt from One After another 10.z</ref>

As Cagerattler he was capable of using the chains inside of him to pull up objects and bogeymen out of the Abyss.<ref>The chains, as Cagerattler walked up the stairs, pulled things from beneath the blood on the ice.  Objects.- Excerpt from Break 4</ref> He could also use Lucas as a power source to fuel his abilities.<ref>“Focus!  It’s gotta be him, at the center!  He’s a power source.  Something old!”- Excerpt from Break 4</ref>

Chronology

At school Cole was a troublemaker, constantly getting suspended. Things came to a head when he assaulted another girl in his class and was sent to prison for two years.<ref name=":0">Then Cole had become old enough to be semi-independent, to go to school, out of their sight.  Where he was a liar, truant, a bully.  Suspended for a week after breaking the glasses of a girl in his class, first grade.  Suspended for two weeks, third grade, for emptying paint over a classmate’s desk and lap.  Fourth grade, he’d stolen extra cake slices before classmates had been able to get them, and had thrown them into the schoolyard, for seagulls to flock in and eat.  The teacher had gone to the effort to make the cake, and it had been her last straw with Cole, prompting her to spank him until she broke down in tears midway through, with most of the class consoling her.  Cole had run home.

Things along those lines until eighth grade.  Cole had assaulted one of the girls in his class.  He’d been arrested, taken away for two years, where Cole had learned to be harder, meaner, had made friends.- Excerpt from Break 4</ref> After prison he got into an altercation with another classmate and was shot,<ref name=":1" /> when Lucas went to look for him he and a practitioner friend sent Lucas into the Abyss, trapping him in chains and a cage.<ref>So Lucas had gone after Cole.  He’d known what Cole liked, the spaces his son had played in.  He’d expected to find his son in a hiding place, bled out and dead.  Instead he’d found a wounded Cole with one of the new friends caring for him, the one with a silver tongue and a sensationalist leaning toward the occult.

A leaning that had had some truth to it.

Lucas’s son had used what his friend had taught him and forced Lucas down into hell.  He’d bound him there with shackles, chains, and a cage.- Excerpt from Break 4</ref>

Later Cole forced his step daughter to enter the Spirit World with him, while there he threatened to throw her into a hole that lead to the Abyss if she didn't agree to let him alter her spirit. Their trip was interrupted by what later became The Girl by Candlelight and they both fell into the Abyss.

He eventually turned into a bogeyman named Cagerattler and participated in the contest for the Carmine's throne. He fought against Cleo and her fellow Witch Hunters, but after Lucas failed a test of character the two of them surrendered and were destroyed.
