Wild Abandon 18.z is the fourteenth chapter of Wild Abandon. Following a time skip, Brie and Zed investigate a ritual with ten friends, Halloween parties happen, Zed finally gets his shit together.

Plot

Brie with her boyfriend Zed call a halt are exploring the emerging ritual that turns people into places, named the Placement Test. The girls have sent their masks, hats and cloaks instead of attending in person, in addition Lucy has her earring. So the duo has ten pseudo practitioners for backup while also having to deal with complex group dynamics and clashing personalities.

They see an over-packed car pass into the ritual territory, the item becomes a place, a moving train; the boxes and materials strapped to the car become people; the drives presumably become unseen items. An Other utterly festooned with magical objects swoops in and steals some of the object that became people. Zed manages to identify this Other as a Grasping, a collector who’s practice has back fired.

They make a plan and move deeper into the ritual. Brie notices one area smells differently and Zed uses that knowledge to create a map to help track the larger ritual.

They spot a doll, no matter how they move it always faces towards them,

They approach the centre and twelve others appear, one for each of them. There’s a woman in green who can tamper with their escape ropes, the Grasping says that she’ll deal with the ropes before they can stop her.

Brie unleashes fire and lightning at the women in green, hitting her and Gainsaying the Grasping, Zed asks for a magic item as payment and gets a mirror.

They all pull their escape ropes, returning to where the girls are stuck as various places, Avery a playing field, Verona a book store and Lucy a graveyard filled with swords. They consider the mission a success and head back, the first snow of the year comes down as the month of November gets ready to start.

Seemingly a short time later, Ann is hosting a Halloween party. Part way though she takes her daughter to meet the Thunder Bay Council practitioners and various local and visiting Others. She argues with Avery about how the girl is dressed and how they treat Others. Ann only comes away from the conversation thinking she is in the right.

Roughly a month later Nicolette through the snow with Seth in her car. He takes the last part of his journey alone, visiting the Alabaster to appeal his forswearing, an appeal she rejects.

However the Carmine Exile appears and Seth successfully appeals to him instead. Behind Charles are other previous forsworn that have joined him, Seth asks if he can join as well. Charles tells him to go back and inform Nicolette that he’s staying and to wish her a happy Christmas.
