Playing a Part 15.3 is the third chapter of Playing a Part.

Plot[edit]

Lucy meets Wallace outside school before the start of school. The two of them sneak off together to talk and they discuss Wallace’s upcoming operation and the possible results. Wallace's mom is worried about the procedure, more so than Wallace himself.

The two of them kiss and then hug, Lucy wishes him good luck before Mr Sitton and Ms Hardy interrupt. Mr Sitton acts dismissively towards them.

Melissa and Fetch-Verona walk in and Melissa notices something is off about Vernoa. The Fetch starts making subtle references to the fact that it’s a fetch rather than Verona.

A new guy walks in a Melissa starts eyeing him up. He introduces himself as Bracken Fry and Lucy realises he’s from the Undercity.

Lucy uses the wash room mirror to pass messages to Verona about the black sheep. Melissa walks in and Lucy tells her that the Fetch-Verona is actually a fake. She then asks what Bracken is and Lucy answers that he’s “trouble”. She goes to leave and Melissa follows her, Lucy tells her about the Undercity and Melissa says she wants to visit it. Lucy warns her not to go and tells her about some of the horrors in the Undercity to dissuade her, she then tells her to call Lucy or Verona’s name three times if she’s stuck down their.

Lucy then goes off to confront Bracken, eventually finding him in a children playground. She tells him to go back to the Undercity but he refuses, he says she can’t use her magic with innocents around.

Lucy notices theirs a younger kid near by that turns out to be his brother. Him and Lucy continue to argue and eventual he reaches for his neck and Lucy grabs his wrist before it connects but Lucy convinces him to let her go.

Melissa arrives on the scene and tries to help.

He says he doesn’t want to go back to the Undercity, Lucy says that if he’s to stay he’ll need to be good. Bracken says he filled out paperwork to get into the school and Lucy offers to help prevent the school realising it’s fraudulent. He says he’s from the Smoke Factory but left after his brother got injured. He went to the Family Man but left after he threatened to castrate people.

Lucy informs them that he’s has his own private army, doesn’t sleep in the same house two nights in a row and is physiologically different now he’s knotted. He says he had help escaping and Lucy says they’ll need to talk to the person that helped him, she also says they need a system to help deal with the Undercity refugees.

A yard monitor comes over and yells at them for fighting, Melissa walks off and creates enough chaos that the rest can escape. Lucy texts Melissa ask her to help show Bracken around and keep him in line.

Later Lucy, Verona and Miss discuss the situation. Miss says she can help with Bracken’s paperwork.

Matthew, Bracken and Bag turn up along with the person that help them get here, a man named Doyle. Doyle gives them information about the family man and his lieutenants. He says he’s weakest at night when he retires and throws a party. Also that perimeter guards monitor who comes in and out of their territory.

Miss says theirs a divine component to the Family Man and that they have six to twelve months until he becomes a god. Bracken and Doyle says the pregnancies and ageing are speeding up as well. They also mention that they’re low on food. Matthew suggests that the pregnancies and castration might happen at the same time and that he’ll use the castrationed body parts for food. Miss says it’s like a ritual and will speed up his ascent to godhood.

It’s mentioned Verona is leaving soon with her mom to visit Thunderbay and hang out with Avery. She’s worried about leaving Lucy all on her own to deal with all this.

In the Undercity Lucy visits the Family Man’s territory. She gets out John’s old guitar and starts playing it, as she does members of the Family Man’s cult flee the scene leaving her all alone.
