Maricica is a Faerie from the court of Dark Fall. At the start of the story she was residing in Kennet in a cave along with Guilherme. Maricica is relatively young for a Faerie. She was banished from Kennet for her role in the Carmine conspiracy.

Personality

Maricica is a schemer who wants to be free. She has several plans that she wants to see through.<ref>- Excerpt from Dash to Pieces 11.z</ref>

Relationships

Visibly reacts to Guilherme every time he moves.<ref>The fact the giant was seven feet tall wasn’t impossible by human standards but he was seven feet tall and confidently carried muscle in a way that defied sense. When he moved, her instinct was to assume it would move slowly, she would take a half-second to check other things in the environment, including the winged woman, who reacted every time he stirred, and then she would look back and find herself surprised that he’d covered as much ground as he had. When he moved, his hair sometimes got out of the way of his face. That was as distracting as anything. Not that she was into it, but it felt like recognizing a celebrity on the street.

The woman with the wings hadn’t actually unfurled her wings. She’d hopped down from the branch with them still wrapped around her. She smiled in a way that suggested she had secrets as she glanced at Lucy, even as she wandered on her own. - Excerpt from Lost for Words 1.2</ref> Seems to have an antagonistic relationship with him, sniping over Court differences and evading regular attacks from him. Whether that counts as a friendship given the social intricacies of the fae is a thing in itself.

Alpeana considered her a friend and was deeply upset when at her betrayal.<ref>Avery nudged Lucy. Lucy followed Avery’s gaze to Alpeana. The Nightmare looked sad.

Yeah. Alpeana had known Maricica for a little longer than Lucy had known Verona, if Lucy had her timelines right. They’d been companions, keeping each other company and sharing a space. Appearance

A slender, winged woman<ref>There was a slender woman sitting on a branch, and what looked like maybe they were wings, draped around her like a blanket. [...] “They’re so new,” the woman with the wings said, in that silky tone. - Excerpt from Lost for Words 1.1</ref>. She walks with her wings wrapped around her, though they're translucent and light brown, causing her to appear almost naked. The wings are covered in patterns and circles that are evocative of eyes, and have been interpreted as both bat wings and moth wings by Verona and Avery respectively. The wings trail 10 to 15 feet behind Maricica, evoking the idea of a trailing ball gown. The patterns on the wings cover Maricica's breasts and parts that need covering, though most of her body is left visible.<ref>The young woman was wrapped in her own wings, but the wings were a translucent brown, covered in patterns that ranged from reds to yellows to white, many surrounded by darker outlines, with circles or other shapes within. It was evocative of eyes. Further patterns traced down the length of the wings, which were longer than Verona remembered seeing back at the Awakening. It was hard to make out the ‘fingers’ within the pattern.

Back at the awakening, she’d seen those and taken them to be the ‘fingers’ of massive bat wings, but with the patterns, she could see how Avery had taken it to be like moth wings. They seemed longer now than they had been, the wings trailing on the ground behind Maricica, extending ten or fifteen feet back into darkness thick enough that Verona’s sight couldn’t penetrate it.Like a trail from a ball gown.

The patterns weren’t as transparent as the rest of the wings.The faerie covered her breasts and the rest of her body, leaving her shoulders bare, and patterns or folds in the wings covered everything that needed covering. - Excerpt from Stolen Away 2.2</ref>

Maricica's true appearance is hard to pin down, but is presumably far more grotesque, as she is mentioned to have a shown face that looks like a cross between a bat's and an entire spider,<ref>There was a moment, as a car passed with highbeams on, that Avery saw Maricica’s face in silhouette.

It wasn’t a human face. Or even a human-like face. If anything, it looked like a bat’s head mixed with a whole spider.

The abrupt, blinding light passed, and Maricica looked her way and smiled, like nothing was wrong or unusual. When she ascended as a deity she became a huge woman covered in blood.

Abilities

It should be mentioned that she is still a young fae that does not know everything about humans and can still make mistakes. However she is still a fae and has several skills such as socialization and planning that make her dangerous on top of her abilities below.<ref> - [3.1 Spoilers] Interview Notes 2</ref>

• She is capable of changing her appearance with glamour.
• She can also create cursed flowers.<ref>“Long gone,” Nicolette said. “We could go after him, but I see some flowers scattered in the shadows of the woods. Very bright. I… wouldn’t.”

• She is skilled at handling curses.
• Can use a nettlewisp to blind someone<ref>The glasses didn’t touch ground before something punctured glass. • She is extremely competent at creating and executing complex plans.

As a deity she's gained innumerable powers such as her schemes gaining the weight of karma behind them.<ref>Edith seemed to consider, then, looking off toward Kennet, in the direction of the house that had once been hers, she said, “Charles may think a given person is intrinsically good.  But the others don’t.  Maricica, she may not be Fae anymore.  Her schemes don’t reach as far, but they have weight.  Karma behind them.  And something meaner, because she’s of the Abyss.  But she still has that old trait of hers.  She thinks a given person is inherently interesting. Summer Squabbles

Daniel Alitzer sought a way back into the Faerie Courts and attacked Guilherme and heavily wounded Maricica which necessitated a move into the background. This was likely a planned move that let her operate in the background more directly.

She continued duties at kennet and seemed to be deliberitly setting things up so bad things happened, inviting in speicifc allies like Lis.

When the Raphael Tindall invaded Kennet Maricica countered Guilherme's attempts to nudge the witch Hunter to a more favorable location.<ref>A lot of people on two sides of the Witch Hunter probably influenced the direction the man took as he saw the opportunity to pull away, heading out toward the river, southwest.

Toadswallow inhaled, deep, and the summer glitter was heavy in the air. Beneath and behind it, close to that family and the man with black hair who had interrupted Guilherme’s maneuvers… the musk of dark fall.

The game was afoot.

The Witch Hunter had no idea how two factions were using him. Guilherme nudged him one way, trying to entrap him, while Maricica freed him, countering the pawns Guilherme used. Sending him out toward the water and the southwest. - Excerpt from One After Another 10.e</ref> During the final fight at the warehouse she killed Raphael by disguising herself as Melissa Oakham.<ref>Melissa stopped running, skin tearing away in folds that reached around. She lifted up off the ground, slender, tall, dark-haired Maricica, looking down at the encircled Witch Hunter.

Lucy looked away, hand cupped so she couldn’t see the man. It was clear what would happen.

She could see Maricica though. The Faerie gestured, making a gesture like she was flicking at the man.

She broke Charles out of captivity whilst he was being held prisoner at the Blue Heron Institute by smuggling Seth magic items.<ref>- Break 1</ref>

After Charles became the Carmine Exile he turned her into an abyssal goddess after being pierced through the heart with a railroad spike.<ref>“Basically.  Obliterated most of what she is, kept a few key things.  She’s naked still.  I guess if you’re going to keep something about your old self, being an unashamed nudist is one way to go.”
