Florin Pesch is a Puppeteer and resident of Thunder Bay.

Personality[edit]

He enjoys sailing and often hangs out at the marina.<ref>The puppeteer still had that ‘ready for a day on the yacht’ look.- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.4</ref> He is highly socially adroit and politicians have wanted him to be there second.

A big believer in Presentation.

Has described himself as a planner and liking the steps he had to take to reach a goal.<ref>“Then do what you will. Stop him, get in his way, slow him down. But if your efforts fail, is it really the worst thing in the world to have me swearing this to you? An acquaintance of yours you could trust as local Lord.”

“You’d leave?”

“After the- I have no idea how old she is.  -Four or five years before she turns eighteen?  After she reaches that milestone, I’d move to other pastures.  I enjoy this, Avery Kelly.  I’d hate being a Lord, but I do love the process of getting there.  When I leave Thunder Bay to restart elsewhere, I’ll retain friends in high places and income streams here.  With you included as a friend, I’d hope, and any Lord I was regent assistant to, as well.” - Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.8</ref>

Relationships[edit]

Florin and Musser are friends.<ref>“Abraham Musser is a friend of mine,” Florin Pesch told her.- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.1</ref>

Florin liked and respected Avery Kelly despite them being on opposite sides. He also liked Snowdrop and was amused by her rule of discourse.<ref>“Is this flattery?” she asked.

“No.  It’s genuine praise.  I like you.  I like your opossum spirit, particularly.  She’s funny.  The council needs young blood and fresh perspectives- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.8</ref> He offered to include Avery in his negotiations with Musser and possibly install Raquel as lord for her.<ref>“But let’s assume it comes to that.”  Florin paused.  She heard a faint tongue cluck.  “Raquel Musser could take Lordship of Thunder Bay.”- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.8</ref>

He worked with Tomas Whitt, buying emotion-altering drugs from him.<ref>“Him and Tomas.  Tomas is working with Florin.  Florin bought emotion-altering drugs and gave them out to people with instructions I wasn’t able to read.  If I kept going, I’d try to find those instructions and figure out the plan.”- Excerpt from Playing a Part 15.4

He managed to recruit Nicole Scobe and her daughter Natasha to his side.<ref>“Actually…” Avery ventured.  “Nicole is siding with Florin.- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.8</ref>

He was will to let She Who Drowns by Moonlight abdicate rather than destroy her dispite this prospect being unlikely.<ref>“I don’t know,” Florin replied.  “She likely wouldn’t have abdicated the throne for anything but annihilation, but if she had offered surrender I would have allowed it.”- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.8</ref>

Appearance[edit]

He has stylized blond hair,<ref>He had a light sweater on, dark blue, with white pants and sandals, like he was ready to be on a boat.  His blond hair looked like he used a stylist.  Avery felt underdressed in this moment.</ref> often dresses like he's going yachting.

Abilities[edit]

His practice involves using doppelgangers and Jockeys to possess people. He's occassionally paid vast sums of money to take down an organisation, family or group. He does this on aboutonce every year are so.<ref>“Puppeteers of my family line, sometimes called Corruptors, we maintain a collection of bound Others of a certain variety.  Dopplegangers, Jockeys- those are Others who specialize in possession, especially possession of Hosts, those who can take control of the hearts, fates, or minds of others.  ”

“Yeah,” Avery said.  “I guess I kinda hoped you’d tell me I was wrong.”

“I’m not active.  I don’t have any influence over this city.  It wouldn’t sit well with the likes of our Lord of Thunder Bay or Ann Wint, and it’s honestly a poor use of expensive resources.  So you don’t need to worry, it takes an extreme situation for me to even come close to acting against a member of this council.  On occasion, once every year or two, someone will pass on my name and give me a reference, I’ll do my research, and if the situation is right, if the situation is one I can keep contained to one group or localized area, I’ll get paid an exorbitant amount of money to target a particular practitioner family, group, company, or something else.”- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.4</ref>

He able to speak via the people he possesses.<ref>Halfway down was a woman in a nice dress, looking up at her.

The woman’s mouth opened in a yawn that froze halfway.  A crackly buzz leaked out, and her eyes lit up.  Identical images in each eye, flickering and blue.

The wavy curl of hair at the front of Florin’s brow was easy to distinguish, as was his voice.  It came through with the static, like a bad connection.  “Avery.”- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.8</ref>

He owns a baton that he uses to control his minions.<ref>Florin was using the baton to guide his summoned, controlling Others.  Ones that seemed to be controlling big, able bodied men and the occasional woman.- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.8</ref>

Chronology[edit]

He was hired by Musser to get rid off Kennet after the Contest for the Carmine's throne.<ref>“Were you one of the people he contacted to target Kennet?  He said he made plans.”

“I’m not at liberty to divulge one way or another.  If there were plans, it’s my understanding they changed when the situation became what it is.”- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.4</ref>

He voted in favour of Avery joining Thunder Bay. Later he advised Avery against taking responsibility for Franky so as to avoid any possibility of karmic debt.<ref>“Taking responsibility tends to mean a master-apprentice type situation.  Like inducting someone into the practice, or awakening them, you take on some of the karmic debt if they screw up.  There’s no need,”- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.4</ref> He also investigated who it was that Franky was targeting.<ref>I think it would be worth investigating the intended target to see if there is anyone on this council or close to this council who might’ve been caught by the curse.”

“Can we leave that to you, Florin?” Deb asked.- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.4</ref>

Avery was asked by She Who Drowns in Moonlight to spy on him.

He attended a meeting at the Blue Heron Institute where Abraham Musser explained his Lordship plan, he declined to help but agreed not to tell anyone unless asked.<ref>“You’ll have to do it without me,” Florin Pesch said.  “I won’t be a warlord.  Especially in a town of two hundred people, worrying about reprisal from an upset Lord who’s strong enough she has held her spot for a long time.”

...

“I won’t say a word unless I’m asked by my Lord,” Florin Pesch said, smiling.  “She won’t ask.  She’s an Other of few words.”- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.z</ref> During the meeting Tanner performed a reading that said that they would need Florin at the early stages if the plan is to succeed.<ref>We need Florin Pesch in the early stages.- Excerpt from Fall Out 14.z</ref>

Avery spied on him meeting with the mayor and various business owners and learned he was involved in data tracking apps.<ref>“That guy’s not the Mayor,” Snowdrop told Avery, while chewing on a carrot.  “The people from before, they’re not business owners yet.  They have an app, it sounds really cool.”

“Not speeding… parking?”

“Nope.”

“With zero data collection and license plate trafficking.  Super ethical.”- Excerpt from Playing a Part 15.2</ref>

Over time Florin built up connections with prominent and important people, including the mayor, business people, clergy and celebrities. He did this without using practice. These connections also gave him access to data tracking which he planned to use help him take over the Lordship.<ref>“Florin.  Florin Pesch has contacts with several businesses, the Mayor, clergy, and someone prominent at Lakehead U.  Two local celebrities, one a musician, and one an ex-television actor, are working closely with him.  To be totally honest, he’s taking a lot of power and prestige that I think another Lord would keep for themselves.  He’s got a handle on levers of government, money, entertainment, education… all under the radar.”

“He’s not using practice for that, apparently,” Verona added.

...

“Basically,” Verona said.  “Because we carry phones and other tech around, and because of the places we go for information or how we contact one another online, records get kept of our preferences, tastes, where we go, what we’ve done.  Massive amounts of details.”

“And,” Avery said.  “I’ve talked about this with Snowdrop, I’m not an expert, there’s still more info to get, but I think… I’m not sure, but I think Florin is either planning to take the Lordship from you or to time pulling the rug out from under you when someone else is poised to.”- Excerpt from Playing a Part 15.4</ref>

He attempted to take over Thunder Bay with the belief that Abraham would eventually take it and planning to slow him down and force him to negotiate with him. He hired Mrs. Furguson to counter She Who Drowns in Moonlight's powers. Avery managed to stop him by trapping him on the Bound to the Party Path, ruining his claim.<ref>- Left in the Dust 16.8</ref>

He was eventually released after swearing oaths, agreeing to leave Thunder Bay, not seek retribution, act against the city or aid her enemies. He also had to give them three favors at a later date.<ref>“I swore the oaths they wanted me to swear.  I’ll be leaving, I won’t seek retribution, I won’t deliberately act against Thunder Bay or her supporters, and I won’t knowingly lend succor to her enemies.  I also owe three favors at a later date.  In exchange for that, they’re letting me leave with my possessions and a few minor concessions.”- Excerpt from Left in the Dust 16.8</ref>

As a parting gift he gave Avery a business card with "1 favor" written on it for not abandoning him on the path.<ref>She took the card.  When Florin drew a circle in the air with a finger, she turned it around.  ‘1 favor‘ was written in cursive.  Below it, in the same cursive but a small, just as tight script, was: within reasonable bounds and procedures.- Excerpt from Gone and Done It 17.5</ref>

He kept in contact with her and about what resources he can offer her.
