Playing a Part 15.1 is the first chapter of Playing the Part.
Plot[edit]
Verona and her dad are putting away the shopping when David, her child support worker, shows up. They talk casually for a bit whilst then he speaks with Brent alone about, when he returns he asks her questions about her life.
Verona asks if she can visit Avery and her mom in Thunder Bay, Brett reluctantly agrees and they proceed to get into an argument about him wrecking her art supplies. David talks to them both privately before leaving. After Verona says she doesn’t want to eat in the dinning room with him and he storms off in a huff.
She leaves and meets up with Peckersnot, giving him some art in return for his help. She sees Matthew and Edith arguing, Edith wants to go back to the way things were whilst Matthew is angry at being betrayed and her killing John.
As Verona walks past she pours out some ice tea and splashes it on Edith, when she tries to follow the two of them Verona threatens to bind her but Matthew stops her.
Matthew is going to the Undercity to respond to a tip off Miss gave him, the two of them proceed together.
Verona rings Lucy asking for information about the hospital and she goes to find her mom.
Whilst they wait for Lucy’s reply Verona talks to Matthew about his home situation and convinces him to stay in Louise's spare bedroom for a while.
Lucy replies that they lost a bunch of staff but have the same number of patients, they are also keeping one wing closed.
Tashlit arrives and they all head off to the Undercity. Verona stops a random couple and asks about the hospital, he tells them the price for fixing someone up is enslavement.
They reach the hospital and Tashlit kicks the door down. As they proceed through the hospital horribly disfigured patients slam against sealed doors. They negotiate the traps and climb the staircase when three patents attack them and after a short fight they manage to subdue them.
They reach the ward on the third floor and find thirty people including orderlies, patients and nurses. A their head is The Resident, the knotted person that runs the hospital, twig thin and with unnaturally long arms.
Verona opens a jar to remove the air and uses runes in her mask to be able to breath, knocking the breath out of everyone, then throws down another spell card to destroy the lights. They fight and Verona manages to bind the fetus ghoul in salt, she then uses Dish to turn her damaged hand in a porcelain claw. She grabs The Resident, he offers to compromise but she refuses.
She attempts to force the Other that's enslaving people to release everyone, leave Kennet or be killed. Matthew uses his doom to kill her saying her death shouldn’t be on Verona’s shoulders.
