'''(First) Poke''' is a short story from the collection ''[[Poke]]''. In this short story, apartment sitting is boring but as always rewarding when the owner comes home.

Deedee is completing her toilet to the best of her ability, an almost manages to blind herself. Not reaping hideous revenge on a neighbor who is disturbed by her howling Dee tries to clean up things up before dressing from her first load of laundry.

Dee doesn't see anything good on goblin tv or human but still decides to record a few seemingly random tv shows. Throughout the process she drifts in and out of sleep. Whenever she wakes up she tries to find something new to record.

A man, presumably the owner, comes home. She instinctually hides herself trying to stay silent and hidden under the couch while he cleans the detritus of her squatter activities. Going through the saved channels he finds something to spark some self-abuse.
This turns out to be be what's needed to free Dee from under the couch. She comes up and has a snack.

The used tissues are good enough. They don't go down quietly and the chocking wakes Her boyfriend Ben. They talk from there tell each other about their week and all that. They talk about Ben's practice.
