'''{{PAGENAME}}''' is the second chapter of [[Lost for Words]]. Lucy watches as the ritual starts, each of the girls share about themselves and what they hope Practicing will be. The ritual occurs and they get they're first glimpse of the world.

== Plot ==
[[Matthew]] carves symbols into the ground and walks the group through what he's doing both setup wise and the importance of the offerings. The Goblins crudely interject themselves inot the discussion, Toadswallow formally introduces himself and his apprentices Cherrypop and Bluntmunch, with the independent Gashwad acknowledged to the side. The Goblins start fighting amongst themselves and Matthew calls John over to corral them. and the situation. Lucy finds herself a bit intimidated by the man.

[[Verona Hayward|Verona]] distracts Lucy and they talk about the Practice though [[Avery Kelly|Avery]] admits she's worried if she moves out of kennet. Matthew assures her that it won;t be an issue as long as she continues with the investigation at least annually, turns out Others have issues with timescales; why it took them five weeks to find practitioners.

The girls take out their items for the awakening ritual each placing them where they need to be with commentary by Miss about the appropriateness for the ritual and what they're meant to represent. As the ritual begins they state and seal a compact between themselves and the Other community cooperation between them and mutual protection. As the the awakening ritual continues, each shares personal details about themselves and expressing their reasons for their choices in symbols and masks. Lucy wants to be cleaver and protective, verona wants to be confident and forward looking while Avery gives a more involved explanation then the other two. She talks about how alone she felt before she got her friends with a photograph she says how she feels she almost disappeared after losing friends and connections.

Miss says that Avery was the first person she found when looking for practitioners. She steps forward and is the first to take something from the offerings. One by one the Others come and take their offerings leaving things in turn. The Offerings don't disappear and only refill as things are taken.

The ritual done at Miss's instructions they close and open their eyes them open them again. Lucy perceptions are fascinatingly skewed swords everywhere which she grumples about. After a few moments reveling in what their new sight shows the girls are reminded by Miss that they're still expected to do the investigation.

Hearing that Lucy takes charge laying out the terms the investigation will be based upon, she tells the Others they can go. Avery tanks them for coming. Turning the Charles they ask him for information
