== Plot ==
Ray talks to [[McCauleigh Hennigar]] about her cutting off [[Corbin|Corbin’s]] thumb, the meeting concludes with them agreeing to reevaluate how much progress before the fall/winter semester and deciding if she will get expelled then. Before she leaves she turns to Ray and says “you’re really bad at this”.

[[Rad Ray Sunshine|Ray]] thinks about his three projects the [[Atheneum Arrangement]] which is expanding into Asia, the [[Golden Garden]] which is an online marketplace and the [[Black Box]], an early warning system where users could report various dangers.

Ray rings [[Judah Greer|Judah]] and asks him to help with the Atheneum, who says he can’t because he’s busy with other projects but eventually capitulates when Ray says he's calling in what Judah owes Ray as his apprentice.

Next he phones Maurice Crowe, they talk about family and [[Maurice Crowe|Maurice]] passes on [[Luise Crowe|Luise’s]] regards. Ray eventually gets around to asking him to teach but he refuses to associate with Musser on moral grounds. He suggests getting apprentices but Ray explains all the difficulties he’s had with finding appropriate people, such as [[Basil Winters|one student]] intending to steal from him. Maurice finishes the conversation by saying he’ll ask Luise.

As he leaves his office he passes [[Seth Belanger|Seth]] and Nicolette and he starts a conversation with the two of them. Seth says [[Kassidy Knox|Kass Knox]] has visited him.

Ray says the school should be a safe place for him now they’ve set up protections and [[Nicolette]] comments that the TV works normally now. They offer to extend the protections so he can leave the school for a short while but he refuses. Ray mentions he’s going to visit [[Charles Abrams]] and Seth asks if he can come but is refused.

Ray gets to Charles he finds him guarded by a shadow. They talk and Charles asks why Ray kept working with [[Alexander]] despite knowing how he acted, he also accuses him of failing to save Seth. Ray replies that the school would have been worse off if he left. Charles goes on to accuse him of abandoning Hector when he should have been looking after him.

Nicolette rings Ray and tells him the students are unsettled, Ray summons a bunch of Others to guard Charles and heads off. Many of the students have been given pieces of paper with various offers on them, all they need to do is head to a certain location. Durocher has set a primeval to guard the school. The other senior students approach, [[Estrella Vanderwerf|Estrella]], [[Amine Roscio|Amine]], [[Ulysse Miraz|Ulysses]], [[Eloise Miraz|Eloise]] and [[Hadley Hennigar|Hadley]]. Ray sends the students off to their rooms.

Nicolette receives a call from Avery and learns that Maricica is involved. Estrella pulls off a silver chain and uses it all the check that none of them are secretly under some glamour. She then lunges towards a reluctant Seth and he breaks into a [[fetch|bundle of sticks]], cursing her in the process. Ulysses removes it with an unnecessary kiss.

[[Kassidy Knox|Kassidy]] never actually talked to [[Seth Belanger|Seth]], it was someone else pretending to be her.

Everyone splits up to look for Seth and Ray uses [[technomancy]] to spy on Charles, blowing up his TV to disrupt any glamour. He turns a bird into a drone and uses it to see from, finding Seth running away from the school holding a [[Nettlewisp|bunch of flowers]]. Nicolette abruptly slaps his glasses away just before a four-inch spike of thorn removes his eye.

Ray removes the summons from outside Charles's room and [[Marie Durocher|Durocher]] destroys the door with her guard dog revealing that Charles was gone. Seth had created a window then broken it to get Charles out.

[[Lucy]] [[Avery]] and [[Verona]] arrive at the edge of the school grounds, stopped by Durocher’s monster.

They see Seth and Charles fleeing towards the school perimeter, Ray creates a series of electric fences to prevent them leaving then summons a door and teleports next to them. Ray pulls out a laser pointer and uses it to cut down several trees. Charles tells him to either kill him or let him go, saying that he was by Hector's bedside when he was ill and that Ray was a coward for not being there.

[[Maricica]] appears and pulls his hand down and closes his eyelids, pushing him as she does so. She informs him that her notes to the students told them to step outside about now and that if he uses his laser pointer he might hit one of them.

Nicolette appears and tells him to shoot upwards, he misses and Nicolette tells him that [[Maricica]] and [[Charles Abrams|Charles]] have run off to Kennet leaving a trail of cursed flowers behind to prevent them from giving chase.
