==Plot==
Verona travels into the woods with Matthew, Edith and Alpeana, trying to catch up with Sharon. Verona worries about Melissa; Edith says that she might succeed in getting some of the stolen magic cards to work if she puts a lot of effort in. They consider this unlikely, but worry that the Carmine influence might make it less so. Alpy encounters an old man, an eater of unborn, and fights to keep him out of Kennet. Verona helps, and they take him down, but she’s dragged into a nightmare of herself, older, still stuck with her dad in Kennet, having isolated herself from Avery and Lucy and smoking pot with Melissa to avoid thinking about her problems. Back in reality, they force the ghoul to leave town, but Sharon’s presence forces Alpy and Edith to leave. Verona and Matthew discover that Sharon’s trashed the perimeter wards. Verona comes up with a plan to deal with Sharon, discusses it with Matthew, and leaves him to head back into town while she faces the Skeptic.
