The afflicted would have vivid nightmares and then wake in a strange place, hurt and exhausted. The Dark Rider would then take them further and further each night, unless the afflicted found connection or found the right superstition to scare them off. Given a chance, the Dark Rider or group of Riders would steer them from this world to another, to be sold or given to an Other.
